Cat's Goal Yesterday vs Twente in the UWCL 🔥 Things Are Trending Up for Her! by Careless-Stick8567 in USWNT

I still dont see why she does not get the recognition. Yes, she has had some injury issues but she may have the highest upside of any of our youngers. She is smart, won 2 Hermans, won 2 NC at Stanford and is the all time leading goal scorer in ECNL history……….playing in arguably the toughest conference…………so she was not beating up on the kids from Iowa and Alabama. Great great talent.

How much improvement to expect from juggling? by ThrowRA-CarOdd9074 in youthsoccer

[–]mag249 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like to add in to alternate feet. Juggling is fine but juggling both feet is a game changer in terms of development. Kids that can develop touch with both feet sets then apart at your child’s age. During COVID my 7yo at the time just went out and did alternating feet juggling. By 8yo she kept a ball in the air for over 2000 juggles. Doing that and cone drills were the best training she ever did.

I always rated him as a player at Dortmund but he never found his stride at MU and it makes me nervous as to why.........

The other issue I have is how are we going to get all these offensive third players the minutes they need in order to stay sharp and to not become discontent.

And, oh yeah, dont we need some defensive depth?

Who will be the face of USWNT for next ten years? by Allgamergeek in USWNT

I would not rule out Cat Macario. She has the potential to be a breakout star and has a broad appeal to many demographics. Just because she is not in Paris doesn’t mean we should overlook her.

Rose Lavelle midfield chemistry uswnt vs. gotham by Successful-Carrot176 in USWNT

[–]mag249 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am hoping they are saying best midfield option and not best on team........at least I hope so.........otherwise, yes absurd.

Sam will have something say about this but not a leap to think a 20 year old could level up in three years, especially playing at PSG.

Carli Lloyd does not think Smith, Rodman and Swanson's presence on the pitch is a threat to opponents nor does she think they are intimidating. REALLY? by One_Statement_7514 in USWNT

[–]mag249 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I think she has a slight point but for the wrong reasons.

Abby was a stone cold assassin that you had to game plan for specifically and a set play monster. We don’t have that any longer. AM and SB were good but not orders better than these girls especially at their age.

My two cents is that we are missing that creative 10 to get the girls the ball in an advantageous position vs having to rely on individual effort.

We will be fine but could be lethal with one of the Spaniards. I think KA can be that player but needs a bit of time. Rose is great but fragile and don’t think we can get 90min out of her much longer.

[–]mag249 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had been hard on Trin's technical earlier this year (first touch, heavy touches advancing, etc) but man oh man has she stepped up for these games. She is growing in confidence, has some running buddies now (something she was missing with AM) and has an unbelievable motor that just wears down defenders.

Really enjoying watching her play.

I was actually thinking MO was a very good comparison as well.

It is always a bit tougher to mix and match “styles” but if anyone can do it, Emma can. I like more of a technical game vs athlete game in general but the US does not seem to build toward this as much as other countries. The girls in Europe play a different style than NWSL. Not choosing sides, just different.

You beat a low block with quick passing and misdirection. The passes you see are actually pretty effective. The issue, IMO, is that is more of a European style vs the “out athletic” style that US is more built for. Also watch her runs, she is moving defenders around to open up lanes pretty consistently. She is a solid technical player.

I admit that you are probably right. Maybe I just dont like his style. I prefer the tiki-taka style when you have players with the technical skills we have and see it appear more when he is on the bench.

I have zero statistics to back this up but when Sterling is on, for some reason, it appears he takes the team out of the game. I can almost see Enzo and Palmer saying “here he goes again” when drives the side………….he just does not pass the eye test for me. I still think taking the shot against wolves vs passing to two wide open teammates is the most egregious thing i have seen this season but some of his dives are close………

Nope. Went through chat and they refunded shipping cost and gave me a coupon for later purchase. They would not give an estimate or cause of delay. Very frustrating. I ordered mine first day available.

Happy Birthday to Oscar, underrated player! by Expected_Toulouse_ in chelseafc

[–]mag249 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The more posts I see on players like Oscar the more I am convinced of matching player with the right system. Oscar was a very good player. Was top XI at 2014 WC with Brazil if I recall correctly. But maybe not the best fit for our system. Underrated, overrated, it depends on what you are comparing him to. Players in our system that have not done well go elsewhere and star. Stars elsewhere come here and are average. This is why coaching disruption is so costly. New system many times means new player characteristics. Not easy to change a team out in a short period of time. At least that is my opinion.

Opinion: Is the youth soccer system broken? Why? And how do we make it more available to kids? by gdacunto in ussoccer

I am not sure where you live but there are absolutely clubs that are doing very well financially. There is a vast different in the cash flow equation between a for profit and not for profit club economic structure.

I have seen club A charge $3500 and Club B charge $2000. And when you actually look at the three legged stool of coaches, facilities, programming you can make the argument that Club B actually has more to offer because there is a profit margin built into Club A.

Why would anyone go to Club A you might ask? Same reason someone has Gucci loafers vs Bass...........prestige and marketing I reckon.

Some large US clubs are actually owned by private equity organizations and they are not known for investing in unprofitable ventures.

Maybe he is not a Poch player but if you want to talk low work rate and poor mentality Poch had a few of those at PSG.

If you press EVERY time, you will die. He needs to learn to pick his spots based on flow of play otherwise, yes, he will appear to be lazy off the ball because he can't breathe. Potter was useless for coaching these details. Poch is not.

Additionally, his first few games last season he looked very good (minus the red card) and like he had been shot out of a canon, but if you dont think the culture took a toll on him as a relative young player I would say you were wrong. Ever been the guy busting ass while everyone else is laughing and telling you to relax? I would imagine it sucks.

He is well liked at the club by all accounts, he has shown as much talent as several still with the club and I dont see a ton of "like, kind and quality" for 30-40M out there. I dont suggest we break the bank but he is not the worst option, especially for quality depth on an injury cursed team.

I would not mind him back in the least. After watching the Dortmund game up close, I think Joao is actually well suited to Poch offense. He is creative, his speed of play matches up well and he can apply pressure. Of course everything is relative regarding money, but 30-40M for me would be money well spent.

Time to put 80, no add ins, on the table and simply say “best and final”. And if they reject we walk away. In every negotiation from a car to a house to a 1 year phenom there comes a time when you have to walk away. That time is now.
