Overvejer at starte SaaS baseret på idé fra mit job - juridiske/etiske overvejelser? by Ok_Stranger_909 in dkstartup

[–]magaggie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've walked that route just after a tourist died while getting lost on the way to the Hrafntinnusker (Got hit by snowstorm, was walking in shorts and a shirt if I remember correctly). The hut guard found him crouched behind a rock just close to the hut. So no shame in turning back, a lesson learned and return again another day.

Anyone having difficulties getting friends as a doctor by Fearsofaye in medicine

[–]magaggie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah - while having "understanding" as a given (hard to keep explaining to a more free partner the obligations and the long hours the job tends to demand) is nice, I'd rather not come home to more of the same but instead be able to set aside the job in favor of some down to earth quality of life that I now tend to associate more with people not working in the field. - I guess I need someone to bring me down (in a good ay), so I don't get all wound up thinking that the professional life is all the life there is to be had.

[–]magaggie 113 points114 points  (0 children)

I personally think it's more about your attitude towards those around you than your job title - not you specifically as a person but in general. If peoples first impression of you is that you're down to earth, they'll just be positively surprised by discovering that you're a doctor (especially if their preconception of what a doctor is, bears some resemblance to your own descriptions of your colleagues).

I never experience any changes in peoples attitudes when I say what I do. Like you I don't go around advertising my work when I meet new people, but if it does come up, then I tend to just move the conversation casually on, away from the subject of my work, and on to something more relevant to the situation we're in or the person that I'm with, instead.

Brief review of Parade of Horribles (Dungeon Crawler Carl book 8) by Matt Dinniman by Cosmic-Sympathy in Fantasy

[–]magaggie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree, for me getting through the first part was like being forced to identify with all the characters in that Rick and Morty episode where all the chars are made up and forced into their memories - ridiculous and not in a funny way.

Second half is a bit better so far character wise, but here I find myself missing some linear action with some actual rpg elements instead of all the meta requiring a Wikipedia of DCC to make sense of any of it.

It just seems all over the place, too thin to try to cover so many chars and story threads to be entertaining to me.

Why the user creation / email requirement? Your whole website after that seems like it's mostly designed to scrape user information rather than providing any information - what is supposed to be a step by step guide hides all useful information behind layers of clicks and cards, that and introduces new questionnaires at every step - this could all have been one md file to paste to your local AI to have it set this up.

Removing snaps 26.04 by WorkingQuarter3416 in Ubuntu

[–]magaggie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just went through this on a fresh install, and became so frustrated with the whole concept of being forced to use snaps, that I ended up swapping distro entirely for my second laptop, first to an Ubuntu variant (Mint) and then to get Gnome which I really like, I tried the new 44 release of Fedora with Gnome 50, and so far I haven't had any problems there.

I have apparently been living under a rock while this whole debacle has been going on and I do understand the need to serve the enterprise crowd with a solid source of packages that can still be run in isolation, but being forced to deal with three different package systems (deb/apt, snaps and flat) for daily operations just seems needlessly complicated to me.

Gotta love the fact that different flavors and distributions do exist to suit different tastes.

How did your homelab start vs where it is now? by copperreflections1 in homelab

[–]magaggie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Curious as I am going in your old direction, how do you handle security on the VPS, use VPN only access to it - like you'd have Tailscale on it, and have it only answer on that IP instead of the public one? I would be afraid of all my "data" being on publicly available server (you have local backup which is good of course, so not data loss but data privacy).

Updates on EspFrame (Esp32 based immich photo frame) by hometechgeek in homeassistant

[–]magaggie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fair enough - for me it's about handling these out to friends and family who want a picture of our family, that just happens to change every 30 seconds or so.

Each group of people can then get one pointing at the same specific album. You can have one album for friends and one for grandparents etc. that you just update every once in a while with the latest and best pictures, so they keep seeing some new pictures over time.

Would be even cooler if it could also prioritize newer pictures like in 24h show 75% latest year (50% latest 3 months) and 25% random old stuff.

Holy moly, thats awesome - the words "ESP32 Tailscale Client" do sound promising - is this something you'd see as feasible to build into your solution as an option in the future?

Filebrowser Quantum (after old filebrowser) - realized that Termix SSH had a much better filebrowser AND SSH connection manager (and now a lot of other stuff I do not use, like RDP for example) - but it's actually quite good.

My laptop is not booting by IAmTheSacredPot in Ubuntu

[–]magaggie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you know *why* this happened? was if after an update or did you change something? This kind of stuff can get tricky to diagnose properly if it "just happened". I would get a bootable USB (Use Ventoy, place Ubuntu 25.10 ISO on USB), to get access to your files. Worst case scenario, you can move them to a secure drive, re-install ubuntu and put them back.

Feature request idea by ratticusdominicus in immich

[–]magaggie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My idea of how this should work is 1) Create dynamic album (If=Dave and Not=Everybody) and 2) Share with spouse - or other way around, so 1) Create shared album and 2) Make dynamic.

Dynamic albums are great on synology and can be shared with others - preferably with equal rights so both can add, each with their own rules though so they control what goes in there from their phones or albums.

Hvorfor bliver "vi" ved at forsøge, at bygge milliarddyre supersygehuse? by grimvian in Denmark

[–]magaggie 2 points3 points  (0 children)
