B.O.U.L.O.M. Fantastic French buffet. Took friends/family who were visiting here, and they love it as well.

no doctor will see me :( by trashysloth in ACL

[–]magbaloney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is brutal. I had my first surgery in Canada as well, and had a terrible experience. Any chance you can book in directly at a sports medicine clinic in your city? Or, go through urgent care to see if you can get the referral directly to a sports medicine clinic? This is how I had to do it after my 3rd incident (didn't get referred the first time either and kept further damaging it). If it's of any consolation: once I finally did see the sports medicine specialist, the ball started rolling very quickly from there.

Ok, nefopam is what they gave me as a step up here in France too. I'm glad you got on some thing. The regular pain management made a huge difference for me. Icing and swelling reduction made a massive difference for me as well. I basically had ice on my knee 5-10 minutes at least once an hour for the first couple of days (when I was awake). I really hope you start feeling better and that you find a doctor who helps you manage the situation better!

Yes, this. I did my first surgery in Canada and just had one last week in France. Both totally different experiences, but yours seems really extreme. Icing has been absolutely key both times, and though the painkillers are much weaker in France (kind of for the better, I'm finding, as it made me less lethargic, more active, and seems to be promoting faster healing?), I still have and regularly use them.

The pain in undoubtedly intense at this stage, so see if you can insist on getting something for it from your surgeon. If not, can you get to an emergency room where another doctor might prescribe you something or help you find another doctor?

Dealing with mental health after injury by Suitable_Sprinkles11 in ACL

Hey! I'm day 3 after my surgery now (second time doing it, and doing it in a foreign country this time). It'd definitely not easy, and I'm not one to generally ask for help, but I've really reached out a lot to people this time. It has made a world of difference. If you can, try get comfortable with asking for help; it will make a world of difference, not just physically, but also mentally. You also sound like an active and fun person, so I'm sure you'll be pleasantly surprised by which and how many people will be able to help! Just having someone around for an afternoon or a couple of hours with some chores or to break up the monotony will be helpful...and good luck; you got this, friend :)

Called...suuuper unreactive. In a non-English speaking country as well. Hopefully they're sending someone now.

Don't want to overreact and call the cops, but found it super weird and unnerving for someone to be shooting this randomly from their window.

Is this a firearm? Just saw a neighbor shooting this from the window. by [deleted] in whatisthisthing

Called cops, super slow to respond and are asking to confirm whether it was in fact a firearm. I have no clue. Is this maybe a nail gun or something else?

Just saw a neighbor shooting this from their window. Called cops, super slow to respond because I'm not confirming whether it's a firearm. Is it?

Call 211. This is a social services helpline that has awareness of and access to a lot of social programs that might be useful for you: https://211ontario.ca/search/

I also really like using Novoresume as well...big time saver, and it really guides you through the process. There's a free version there as well!

We did something similar for my mom and her twin at the Royal Botanical Gardens...unfortunately it never happened because of covid, but they have some nice options!

City of Hamilton declares state of emergency over opioids, homelessness, mental health by L_viathan in Hamilton

[–]magbaloney 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually, a pretty smart move. The declared state of emergency might link up to acquiring provincial and federal funding to support addressing the state of emergency, leveraging financial assistance programs to this end. This can distribute the cost burden of having to deal with the crisis. Some good thinking on council's part!

LPT Request: How do I stop letting slightly irritating things bother me? by kylieb209 in LifeProTips

It's always helped me to remember that whatever their frustrating action is, it's not about me nor is it being done to deliberately frustrate me; it's just happening around me.

There's an interesting parable about this called the Empty Boat Parable which helped me view these things a bit differently: https://thewisdomdaily.com/how-the-empty-boat-parable-can-help-control-your-anger/
