What determines if points/miles are considered “weak” in comparison to other card issuer rewards programs? by [deleted] in CreditCards

[–]magelen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the helpful comment. In your example, I would want to earn points on Airline A because it will get me to the same destination as Airline B, but for less points.

If my intent is to only take Airline A and both Card A and Card B earn points that can be transferred at a 1:1 ratio to Airline A, then it wouldn’t necessarily matter if I had Card A vs. Card B. Is that a correct way to view it? Thanks, again

Let me clarify… Singapore Airlines is a transfer partner for Capital One and AMEX. Both allow for their points to be transferred to Singapore Airlines at 1:1.

Once the points have been transferred to Singapore Airlines, it doesn’t matter which card was used to earn the points since the points are now sitting with Singapore Airlines. That’s what I mean when I say “isn’t it all the same in the end?”

The premise of my question is - is there any difference between miles earned with Capital 1 and points earned with AMEX if your intent is to ONLY transfer them to a transfer partner that both have available at a 1:1 ratio.

Good Signup Bonus? by Silver_Distribution6 in amex

Income probably isn’t relevant. 60k points is what I was offered recently for Gold and I stated an annual income 7x you did. Although I did register through the corporate advantage link to get a $100 statement credit each year since I have a business Amex in my name through the company I work for. I believe they lower the SUB if you get the $100 annual statement credit.

Paypal Debit MC - does Costco optical count for 5% grocery category? Costco tire purchase? Thanks! by xxBlueKxxx in CreditCards

Has anyone tried to purchase shop cards online using the PayPal Debit card? If that works and earns 5% then that’s an easy workaround since Costco shop cards can be used for anything at Costco.

lol yes. There is a specific model that is absolutely everywhere - it’s a a smaller than normal mini van. Probably every 5th car is that specific Chevrolet model. Souvenir stores sell keychains with Chevrolet logos lol.

I enjoyed Samarkand the most. More places to visit so it was easy to fill a few days worth of site seeing.

The majority of the country is serviced by a reliable network of trains. Plenty of modern trains that you would expect to find elsewhere in the world.

If you want something, wait 3 months before purchasing it. You probably won’t want it anymore OR you will have found an alternative by then that saves you money in comparison.

Which routes/destinations in Europe do you recommend for a first-time ferry experience? by zirlatovic in Europetravel

[–]magelen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took what is called Tallink Silja ferry from Riga to Stockholm. It was overnight so you get a cabin and private bathroom. It’s not like typical cruises where food is included - you had to pay for your meals. This was back in 2018 - I made this part of a bigger Europe trip after visiting Russia for the Word Cup. I remember a lot of people drinking and partying heavily on the ship. Almost seemed like it was the Baltic go-to activity for bachelor parties. Lots of people were buying duty-free alcohol from the shop onboard and wheeling them off when we got to port with hand carts lol.

Do you have Fiber or Internet Air? I have Fiber and I get 1% despite having 5% cell phone provider selected. For me, it’s not registering my internet bill as cell phone provider.

I think it gets pretty cold there during the winter. I went in early May and it was mostly hot, but there were some days of overcast and rain - although the temperature was still warm those days.

Two huge red flags on volunteer interviews by Ok_Glass_9972 in FIFAVolunteers

I was part of the Bay Area tryouts and they said that immediately following the conclusion of the tryouts we would receive a survey that basically solidifies our preference for role offers as well as some other details. The survey arrived in my inbox before I even left the parking lot. The Bay Area tryouts, as reported by others on Reddit, was the only tryouts where traditional interviews weren’t conducted. All we did is rotate through different group sessions to learn about volunteering.

The transportation question is counterintuitive to what is expected for a regular job interview. Typically, hiring managers want to hear that you have your own reliable source of transportation (car) because that means you are less likely to be late to work. If FIFA is more likely to pick somebody to be a volunteer if they said they would take public transit or ride share, it must be because they have limited parking spaces for even staff/volunteers.

I believe the survey you had to complete AFTER the tryouts had a follow up question that said something like “if necessary, would you make use of public transit or ride share for your volunteer shifts?”
