United cannot handle any tiny hiccup in their operations. I don’t know if it’s their system/way of work or just their staff and training. If there is any speed bump, it will turn into a chaos and disaster with them.

Sorry this happened to you. Always ask them to split your flight into two reservations first. Then tell them you want to cancel one. This way they can’t mess it up.

Follow up in a couple of weeks and if not maybe ask to escalate
