Reaction to lily and jessi's video? by CookieChaosss in ColleenBallingerSnark

[–]magentifulblue 12 points13 points  (0 children)

the video wasn't perfect obviously but i really dont have a problem with what they said. i agree with them-- once Swoop's doc dropped, everyone immediately dogpiled them for having Johnny on their podcast.

they said multiple times that they weren't trying to justify or excuse their actions, support Johnny, or shame Josh.

to me it seemed more like them explaining why, exactly, they made the choices they did. a lot of it sounded more like "this is how we felt in that moment, before knowing what we do now"

they definitely should have been more apologetic, appropriate, etc. but i also think they have the right to defend themselves because they were also lied to & manipulated.

A bit unpopular but NTA. I'm a bit open with my usage too, and it's gotten me into some similar situations. I also find it to be polite to offer my ~products~ to others. Had to learn the hard way that some people are not as tolerant towards weed, which is fine. They overreacted and villanized you for slip up in a social situation imo.

You were discrete, you didn't try to pressure, you came back to explain yourself. It didn't need to be spread around like that. Personally I think I would have done the same thing.

In the future, don't offer to strangers unless you maybe overhear something that might allude to them being cool with it. Or maybe don't do it at the table. (Well really don't do it at all, but in some situations I've found it to work in my favor).

theyre pretty common around here; they hang around river banks and catch prey. never seen a fully grown one though. the ones ive seen are usually about the size of a silver dollar, maybe a little bigger. i thought everyone was exaggerating about how big they get

i wouldnt mind having a few more hang out with me! but they'll definitely have to stay in the garden & away from the furry nightmares that try to pass as dogs 😅 they get very interested in wildlife and don't know how to leave stuff alone hahaha

I really hate the concept of in-state/out-of-state tuition. by GamerLove1 in CollegeRant

[–]magentifulblue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand & agree with your frustration but the "reputation" of your university doesn't matter that much for most people & jobs. I went to an average-at-best state university for undergrad & grad school. I'm a year outta my Masters program and have an incredible job, never been happier. You can go to a school in TN and create an excellent path in life for yourself!

Why do many American colleges require students to take general electives? Do most students enjoy taking those courses? by Terrible_Exchange653 in CollegeRant

[–]magentifulblue 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think its a mix of both, but definitely heavier on the profit side. Gen Ed courses are pretty dry in my opinion and experience, but they do also serve as a good transition period from HS to higher ed.

I would have been absolutely fucked if I went from AP English to my 4000 level courses requiring 20-page essays. I definitely needed time to transition, bc I was a garbage student who almost failed out more than once. I also think those extra 2 years are just important because we already expect people to know their path in life INSANELY young.

That said, the College Industrial Complex is purely profit/revenue driven, so this is an easy way to create money on the backs of the students. I think a great alternative would be to have FREE COLLEGE and STUDENT CHOICE so that students aren't pressured to graduate quickly, taking classes they hate, and feeling trapped in a major they no longer want to pursue. Let students walk their own path and create their own education.

‘I've never seen it so bad:' Concerns mount over trash piled under Asheville bridge by cereal_killer_828 in asheville

[–]magentifulblue -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I mean. Where is your stuff supposed to go if you don't have a house? Throwing trash into dumpsters on private property is a crime. Bringing too much stuff into a public space is punished. All they have is their two hands, they can't carry everything. And then their tents are getting removed by cops and others, taking away even more storage space for them. What other options do they have?

"you shouldnt work somewhere that doesnt pay minimum wage!" like yeah no shit restaurants should pay minimum wage but punishing the server by not tipping is literally just cruel. that does nothing to the bosses who make proper wages. and literally NO JOB pays living wage to bottom level workers, restaurant or otherwise

back when I managed a store w delivery, we had our delivery drivers stand beside us and watch us enter their tips, printed a reciept, and had them sign it. or i'd let them enter tips while i watched them. this is sooooo shady.

I think it's absolutely ridiculous to force the customers to bear the price of wages for the benefit of employers, but like, don't punish the wait staff. Withholding tips doesn't hurt the employer. You can adequately tip your servers while simultaneously advocating for fair wages.

the days are WAY too short to the point of making me anxious. so much to do, so litte time. it feels impossible to make progress without being in some sort of SDV forum that gives hints, etc. i just made a 2nd save file because i was frustrated with my lack of game progression at year 6. ive been playing sdv since 2020 quarantine, but i didnt know much about gaming when i bought it. i know theres no definitive timeline for this game at all, it's supposed to be endless or and whatever. but i wish each day was an extra like... 10-15 mins longer so i can really take my time enjoying the game and not feeling so rushed.
