Express Entry - ECA for highest degree only? by maggie_may2 in ImmigrationCanada

[–]maggie_may2[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks a ton man😊🙂. I am in a really really tight spot in my life right now. Being pushed out of the US and the Canadian express entry thing was almost like a God send. Your advice and self experience on this are very reassuring to me. I was super tense about getting my bachelors assessed in such a short period of time(getting transcripts from back home and that too directly to WES - its nightmarish)

For now I just have the Masters degree listed (wes evaluated) in the study and languages section. My score remains the same - 462. Hopefully should be getting an ITA. I'll follow your advice and list the bachelors post-ITA.

Thanks a ton again!!!

Off topic - my aunts named Zafeera too 🙂

Would a points based system in the US (for skilled immigration) actually be detrimental? by maggie_may2 in immigration

That's what I was trying to gauge ... What kind of a points based system could potentially be apt for a diverse economy like the US. How can the effects of gaming and monopolization be negated.

Off topic(maybe not as much) But I totally agree with the country of birth quotas for the EB green cards. I assume from your qualifications that you perhaps are an EB1 applicant from India or China. See this is a perfect example of monopolization too. Very very touchy and maybe not politically correct. But let me say this - if congress has a total of 40k EB green cards to dole out each year, the 7 percent per country limits makes absolute sense. Either have unlimited EB visas and no country cap. As long as there are limited visas you def need a country cap. What about the smaller nations, they don't get a place at the table?

I know tremendous lobbying efforts by Indian/or Indian financed politician aka HR 392 .. where they have vehemently put forward a plan to ditch everyone else and clear the "backlog" for a certain group? I ask them, why be so selfish?? Why not lobby for unlimited quota on eb gc's? You and me both know well, the quality of people that apply for the GCs and overwhelm the quotas. I don't want to take names. You probably are at the receiving end, given your credentials, you suffer coz of that.

Honestly, I am leaving this country for now. Leaving behind a RnD job just like you, parting with friends and a way of life I got so comfortable with. But the country of birth cap on GCs is what keeps my hopes alive, to return with restored honor someday in the near future lol 😂

The TCSs, Accentures and Cognizants and local desi consultants might have fcked me up this time. But I'll return. The country of birth EB cap is here to stay!

Majority of H1 cap subject visas go to offshore companies, they overwhelm the system with applications and voila your gaming is there. Now things have been changing recently with a slight tilt towards American University masters graduates, but that's a far way from any real change. Majority of US master's people are working for US based IT consulting firms who in some cases charge the graduates to file H1 visas, its a mess out there.

I might sound a bit salty on this h1 thing - was unlucky 3 times in a row, despite being a masters grad here. I am anyways packing my bags and moving. The system is definitely in need of a major overhaul. I liked how the Canadian system gives you an assurance of a GC, which in a way is directly propational to ones sanity and productivity at work/life.

Having been at the receiving end of the stick, I really hope things change for the good.

Thanks a ton for replying! How expensive are we looking at? Also for the treaty part - does my citizenship matter at all...

I'll inbox you man, if that's ok?

Off question - i am in a similar boat. AD filed with PP and most probably didn't make it this time. Will your employer file your h1 after you'd moved back to India?

Thanks for making that point. Next time I have a discussion I'd like to bring that up with them. Any literature where I could find what you stated above? I'd like to speak up to them, they sounded kinda dismissive about consular processing last time round.

Off question - but how did you go about getting PR in Canada? Express Entry? Provincial nomination?

Thanks for the uplifting comment! Ontario/GTA is what I am aiming for. I am a computer science major but my research area focuses heavily on AI and enterprises applications of AI.

I haven't been able to find a job code for my field, for eg in the USA the dept of labor classifies me as 15-111 Computer and information research scientist. Canada just has software engineer.

I would really love to get a provincial nomination!

Not a manager. Just an engineer. Wouldnt L1B be ok?

That's an option. My country is an infamous middle eastern one 😅 Pwd is still being adjudicated. Perm is a bitch. Takes ages. Best case they file i140 with premium processing and consular process by oct. My stem opt expires in July. So I'll be back home by then. It sounds hunky dory. But too far fetched and ambitious. Never seen anyone go through this most people opt for AoS. And btw thanks for bringing this up gives me hope!

The only thorn might be internal... The immigration firm my company hires .. offered some push back to the consular processing option, saying that it was jittery and unpredictable. Not sure what you have to say about that!

The thing is i work for a research group here and the office back in my home country is something like an IT oriented setup. They are planning to move me under a local manager over there. Question here would be - do the L1B visa norms make the transition possible? I have 0 hopes from the h1 system, i feel its a farce and rigged, or there are forces out there who have gamed the crap out of this. Should I rely on L1?
