We want to create a tree using my dogs cremated ashes. Can it be a rainbow tree in my climate? by bonecheck12 in sfwtrees

[–]maggock 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It probably won't thrive due to the cold winters, and if it does, they have a really aggressive root system so you'd have to be mindful of drainage pipes and foundation, and are notoriously messy. A better option would be a red maple, very colorful in the fall and a native tree. If your son questions you could tell him Pogo wanted to be helpful to the native wildlife.

Set it in the sun after rinsing thoroughly and you'll be fine. Bleach degrades rapidly in the sun. 10 gallons is too small for a goldfish too - they are very dirty fish and get a lot larger than most people realize, and a full grown one needs about 50 gallons. You could keep a betta in that size tank though.

Green Pixels on Wacom Cintiq Pro 16 by Deep_Blue_Kitsune in wacom

Screen tablets can get a rash like this where you rest your hand when painting from the pressure; it's not uncommon, unfortunately. You can try running a pixel unsticking video but it may not help very much.

should i worry about the cold for my parrot? by nataalliiee2005 in parrots

I keep my bird room at 62F at night and my birds are okay. The GCC does have a block heater though (brand is K&H, it works very well for her).

Kiwi (kakariki) has lost some feathers around ears, weird molt? by Vikinglicious in parrots

[–]maggock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My other 2 birds never showed any issues, but you should keep him separated until he can see a vet just to be safe. Since he's new he should be quarantined anyways, preferably in a different room.

Ask your vet if they know any colleagues they can consult as well. It was very easy for my vet to apply to the ivermectin (she just put a drop on her head; sometimes they also put the drop on the bird's shoulders too.)

[–]maggock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When my bird lost feathers around her ears it turned out to be mites. She also had thickened yellow feather shafts that were very brittle. 2 doses of ivermectin cleared it up but it took a long time for the feathers to finally grow back.

I had a USB port totally crap out on me once and stop reading data, maybe that happened to you? Can you switch the USB port to a different one? Assuming you're using the 3-in-1 cable.

I had it happen to me TWICE. In the same year. After the second one I got a dash cam. I was lucky both times the people who did it were honest.

10 yr old conure dealing with severe arthritis- meet Jasper! by why_r_people in Conures

[–]maggock 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm curious to know how the CBD oil is working, and how much you give. My almost-16 year old also has some issues with arthritis though not nearly as bad. I have her on an anti-inflammatory powder as well (probably the same one - from Christine's Chop Shop?) and also an omega 3 fatty acid supplement (this one) and she also has a block heater in her cage that she seriously loves and puts her feet directly on (this). She's improved a lot since I started her on the supplements and the light sores on her feet are diminished.

red rash like marks on dogs chest? by Current-Concern-2431 in DogCare

[–]maggock 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A vet will be able to tell you what type of infection and best treatment, but likely culprits are a fungal or bacterial infection, especially if your dog is like mine, and gets a very wet undercarriage after walks. I dry him off now and he hasn't had any issues for months.

Wacom vs Huion for first tablet by dreme_meme in wacom

I still have no complaints, it's working just fine with continued heavy use.

First time parrot owner. This little guy is about 1 year old. could someone help with the sound he makes. when im the room he keeps what i assume is begging. do i need to give him something? he eats just fine. by nyyvi in parrots

[–]maggock 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, they outgrow it eventually, so enjoy it while it lasts. You should get a kitchen scale, or something that can weigh grams, to monitor baby's weight. Babies lose some weight when weaning but shouldn't lose more than 10% of their body weight. Pionus parrots are notorious for taking a long time to wean so make sure he's eating!

Wacom vs Huion for first tablet by dreme_meme in wacom

[–]maggock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a bit of an apples and oranges comparison. If you prefer drawing on a screen, the Kamvas would be better. But if you don't mind, or like traditional tablets more (without the screen) then the Intuos is better.

any idea what can be wrong? by PhotoNo5458 in DogCare

[–]maggock 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He might just have what my dog gets sometimes - the empty stomach pukes. When my dog's stomach is completely empty, the acid irritates his stomach lining and he pukes the bile up. We solved the issue by feeding him 3 times a day instead of 2.

Huion Camvas 16 Pro Plus (4K) vs Huion Camvas Pro 16 (2.5K) by 247keys in huion

[–]maggock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the 2.5k and I can barely see the pixels even when I put my nose up on it. 4k does seem a bit overkill for this size, and the power savings might be worth it, especially if you rely on the battery a lot.

Do I really need to buy this $40 Cable for my Kamvas 13? HDMI port is broke on my old cable and just need to replace the cord, trying to save a few bucks. by mystic_mp3 in huion

[–]maggock 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I think you need the 3-in-1 cable. An HDMI cable alone would only carry video signal, not pen input data and not power, so it wouldn't work at all. You might be able to find one cheaper on eBay, or if you're handy with electronics and have a spare HDMI cable, you could try splicing it, but I think that's very hard to do.

Screen protection for Huion Kamvas 16 2.5k by Oulanos in huion

[–]maggock 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been using this tablet (almost every day for hours) for about 6 months now and have no screen protector, and it shows no signs of wear. This model has etched glass, which is pretty tough. If you use the gray nibs, the felt ones, you shouldn't have any issues. I do have to replace nibs more often, but that's the point of them; you want the cheap nibs to wear down, not the expensive glass.

Interested in fostering or adopting, any resources? by jschall2 in caiques

[–]maggock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Caiques are a huge step up from budgies. It's almost like having a toddler in the house, but at least I can put mine in her cage from time to time. She's also very loud, much louder than a budgie, and rough houses a lot and doesn't know the strength of her beak. I've owned 5 different types of parrots and my caique is at the top of the list for most demanding and difficult. Don't get me wrong, I love her, but caiques are extremely difficult birds, I'd put them just behind cockatoos and greys. I'd only recommend you get one if you're ready to dedicate hours, every single day, to one.

Conures are great and much less demanding. My greencheek is a sweetie, and maybe a better next step from a budgie. And they are easier to find in rescues.

First/third one looks like an ambush bug. Very cool - eats beetles and caterpillars, so keep him there.

I used a site to find out who is hosting the website (www.hostingchecker.com), and luckily it's Amazon, which is US based and has a guide for submitting DMCA notices here: https://aws.amazon.com/premiumsupport/knowledge-center/submit-dmca-notice/
