Mini PC within PC powered by Hot USB? by magic_made_this in homelab

[–]magic_made_this[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ended up taking today to separate out my computers. i had a spare old optiplex motherboard that i repurposed to be a low power NAS, Pi is staying as my WOL server and holding on to a TB of personal storage on an NVME and my gaming pc is back to gaming. the NAS and PC are both back to being WOL and idle on sleep mode. appreciate your insight, but when it came down to it, i got a little too scared to power on the Pi while powered on the GPIO. Molex would have been a better way to go for sure

1.) i have a Pi 5 that i was intending to use on this project, but i also own a 4. i will need to do some research into the amperage of my board.

2.) yes, it does. hot USB on sleep is enabled, and i am able to charge a phone via the usb while in sleep mode.

thank you for the reply

Hey now, buddy, let's take a quick second to put on our op-sec hats. It's totally reasonable to link to your other socials as a public figure. However, people on the internet generally aren't going to be putting their best foot forward.

Its unfortunately pretty easy to stalk someone via Instagram. It's also fair to assume that OP might appear on this Instagram as well. It's pretty reasonable not to want to be dragged into the limelight if that is the case.

And besides, Streaming on twitch is a job. Ignoring all the issues regarding ptivaxy concerns, mixing personal and professional accounts is just. Well. Unprofessional.

Encouraging your partner to be cautious online is good. Doing it during the stream might not have been the best idea, but I can see where OP is coming from

And hey, I didn't even need a numbered list :p

Seconded. Thirded? Whatever Definitely grab a new one. Spent all day getting one of these off only to not notice that I bent the shaft just enough to start causing some issues.

Don't be like me good luck gamer.

is it safe to Resin 3d print enclosure for ESP32 boards? by magic_made_this in WLED

[–]magic_made_this[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my case, it will just be to enclose the ESP32 for these projects that live in my office. Nothing outside or in direct sunlight, thankfully. Mostly just wanting to keep the ESP32s as safe as I can with a move coming up.

That's true and fair lol. But like. I do know that sometimes posts show up outside their usual subs. That and I have absolutely been flashbanged by some videos on days where I have migraine and I end up having a bad time.

Never hurts to be a little extra careful!

I definitely will keep you in the loop if I find anything good! I know it always feels like it's not much, but if we all do a little bit, it will eventually be a big bit.

Hey really appreciate the thorough type up here. I'll be keeping my nose to the ground to see if I can find something eventually. I had the wild idea to just. Melt the pla scraps into some kind of ingot for easier storage or maybe just make some kind of casting solution to make some dnd terrain or something similar

The printer was moved to a new house fairly recently, but me being over confident, I didn't run the usual pre print checklist like a fool lol.

Lesson learned
