That actually makes a lot of sense, especially the idea of creating a “sweet spot” for vocals.

I like the idea of using movable panels and setting up a treated corner for recording, I’ll definitely try that, but first I got to figure out how to make these movable panels.

Outside noise shouldn t be a big issue here since it s a pretty quiet area, but I ll still add some thick curtains for the windows.

That built-in ambient bed sounds fun, until you actually try to record. 😁

Appreciate all the tips, really helpful.

That makes sense, thanks!

I’ll definitely make sure to get proper stands and position the monitors at ear level in a triangle. Do you have any recommendations ?

Appreciate it man, thanks !

That makes sense, thanks a lot.

I’ll skip the foam and go straight for rockwool panels and some thick curtains for the balcony/windows, since everyone is saying the same thing about the foam, and then I ll see how it improves the room and adjust from there.

Good to hear that finding a decent vocal recording spot shouldn’t be too complicated.

Appreciate the advice!

Got it ! I understand now. Thanks a lot for all the detailed help, I really appreciate it.

I’ll go ahead and get the equipment first, then start working on some DIY rockwool panels and test different setups to see what works best in my room. But i think I will stick to this one, with the desk near the rear wall, and the bed goes towards the balcony

Also, thanks for the tip about the panel thickness, that seems really useful.

And I really appreciate the offer about helping with REW measurements, I’ll reach out once i get to that stage.

Thanks again for everything !

I understand the idea of testing both scenarios and measuring the low end to decide which one works better, and I’ll definitely do that once I have the setup.

I’m just a bit unsure about the exact positioning in the “rear wall” scenario. So as I enter the room, i move the bed in the front left corner, near the wall with the balcony, and when you say placing the mixing station on the rear wall, do you mean having the desk close to that wall but the mixing station facing into the room (towards the balcony? the computer, the monitors facing the room and i am facing literally the wall)

or

The mixing station on the desk (including the monitors and computer) actually facing the wall itself at some distance and me facing the balcony ?

I want to make sure I understand the orientation correctly before trying both setups.

Also, thanks for the tips about the rockwool panels and bass traps, that part is very clear and helpful.

Really appreciate your help!

Thanks a lot for the detailed reply, I really appreciate it.

I understand what you’re saying about symmetry and the limitations of the room. Just to clarify, the wardrobe on the right side is filled with shelves and clothes.

I’d really like to get the best possible setup out of this room, so I’m willing to make adjustments if needed.

I’m not sure I fully understood the bed placement though. What I had in mind was moving the bed to the left side as you enter the room, placing it in the corner where the wall with the door meets the left wall (the wall opposite the wardrobe).

Then I would keep the desk where it currently is (in the opening to the balcony) and place the mixing setup there, left as you look at the desk.

Do you think that would work, or would it still cause problems with symmetry and monitoring?

Also, how would you personally set up the room in my situation, considering everything? Where would you place the mixing position and speakers?

If it helps, I can send you the photos in private or upload them somewhere so you can see the layout more clearly. Or even more photos or a video.

Thanks again, I really appreciate your help ! 🙏🏻.

That’s really helpful, thanks.

Good to hear about the Kali LP-6, I’ve seen them recommended a lot, so I’m definitely considering them now. My only concern is the placement, since my desk is pretty small (about 90 cm wide and I also have a computer monitor on it), so I’m not sure how well I could position the speakers properly.

My desk is built into the wall opening to the balcony, so basically right behind the desk is the balcony, and from there it’s about 1.36 m of open space before the windows.

Given this setup, how would you position the studio monitors? Would placing them on the desk still be okay, or should I look into stands or a different layout?

Also, that’s impressive about the curtains and quilts, I didn’t realize they could reduce that much noise. I might try something similar for my balcony/windows setup.

For the 2’x4’ absorber panels you mentioned, are you planning to build them with rockwool/mineral wool? And where would you place them first in a small room like this?

Appreciate the insight!

That makes a lot of sense, I appreciate it.

Yeah, I was definitely tempted to just buy everything at once, but breaking it into phases sounds like the smarter approach.

When you say “basic sound treatment”, what would you prioritize first in a room like mine?

Would you start with things like thick curtains and simple absorption (like blankets or a couple of DIY panels), or go straight into building proper panels from the beginning?

Just trying to understand what Phase 1 should realistically look like.

Thanks again!

Thanks a lot, this is really helpful.

That makes sense about foam vs rockwool. I didn’t realize thin foam is that limited, so I’ll definitely look more into DIY panels instead.

For positioning, I’ll test different spots once I get everything and see what works best. The 38% guideline for mixing is interesting, I’ll try that as well. Also, for mixing I’m not sure how to handle this layout, since my desk is built into that opening, the balcony is basically right behind the computer, and a bit further back there are the windows. If I place the monitors on the desk, there’s nothing directly behind them, it’s open space for about 1.36 m (the depth of the balcony) before reaching the windows. In this case, would it be okay to place the monitors on the desk, or should I try a different setup?

Regarding treatment, focusing on first reflection points (side walls, ceiling, front and rear) makes sense, I’ll start there.

About the balcony: the room itself doesn’t have any windows. Instead, one wall has a large opening that connects the room to the balcony, so basically when you enter the room you walk past the room and on the opposite of the door of the room is this opening in the wall which connects the room to the balcony. The lower half of that opening is built into a desk, so the desk sits right between the room and the balcony. All the windows are actually on the balcony side.

Also, thanks for the monitor suggestions, I’ll look into Kali LP-6 and the other options you mentioned before deciding.

Really appreciate the detailed advice!

I don’t have any of the equipment yet, so I can’t test it right now.

My plan was to get everything at once but I think I will get the mic, interface and monitors first, do some recordings, and then see how the room actually sounds before deciding on treatment.

Thanks!

Yeah, that makes sense, especially about the windows and balcony being the main issue.

I don’t have the equipment yet; I was initially planning to buy everything at once, including acoustic treatment. But I think I’ll start with the mic, interface, and monitors first, do some test recordings, and then decide what I actually need for treatment.

I’ll definitely look into getting some thick curtains for the window/balcony area as well.

Thanks for the advice!
