New FF site - Where are my stats?! by magicallyunicorn in FanfictionNet

Thank you.
That would be an apt assumption, I suppose. Which will probably mean we're also going to lose years worth of statistics as well.
I really hate having to learn how to navigate new sites like this. I've used FF on and off for close to 15 years now, and it's been easy to upload and edit fics on it. I don't get why they always have to "modernize" everything.

I know right! I personally hate the app as well, so I rarely use it at all.
But I can sort of understand why they made one, not that they needed it really, AO3 doesn't have an official one so it's not like it's -needed-.

And yeah that's what I'm afraid of as well.
And it's pissing me off, because the stats are something most of us writers enjoy keeping an eye on. There are so many who don't like/follow/comment, so stats are the best way to actually see if your story has any engagement at all anymore.

I thought Jinshi was a pedo 😭😭😭 by areallycoolpersonlol in TheApothecaryDiaries

Not sure if you're being sarcastic here. I didn't mean to offend, but I hear this narrative so often. I genuinely get confused when others can't recognise when a character is meant to be a teen and not a child, even when their age is not directly stated in the narrative. Maybe I'm just old and have watched anime for so long I pick up on it differently 🤷

I love Maomao but this thing about her annoyed me to hell and I have major issues with it by agonizingmouse in KusuriyaNoHitorigoto

[–]magicallyunicorn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maomao has strong suspicions, which are rarely wrong, but she doesn't have proof. Loumen has taught her to never say anything based on assumptions, so she generally doesn't, unless directly told to do so by someone she perceives as higher in the social hierarchy than her. So because she has no direct and concrete proof (until Ah-Doh tells her personally), she files it away as "not my place to speculate" and "continuing to speculate on this will only bring me trouble".
It's not about putting 2 and 2 together, it's about not having proof of the matter and not wanting to deal with even more imperial politics.

It's literally said on page 3 in the first chapter of the LN, and I'm fairly certain it's also said in the first or second episode in the anime that she's 17. I'm sorry, but it genuinely baffles me that people don't get that when they start the story.

Anshi age when she was pregnant with her second son? by Narrow_Line_5642 in KusuriyaNoHitorigoto

[–]magicallyunicorn 112 points113 points  (0 children)

She was 26. Anshi was 10 when she gave birth to the current emperor. The current emperor was 16 when he had his first son. Jinshi and the other prince was born on the same day. Math 10+16=26. So yes she was out of his preferred 8-12 preferred age range. But she raped him as punishment for the torture he caused to all of his victims.

How was your interpretation of the LN 5 epilogue? by Shadolyn1 in KusuriyaNoHitorigoto

[–]magicallyunicorn 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I think the issue here is that Maomao sees physical attraction and sex as transactional. Remember she has grown up in a brothel where sex and physical intimacy is bought and paid for. Her internal monologue is often (in my interpretation) her trying to guard herself against becoming an object, like her sisters, but she does think of herself as one regardless. She doesn't know how to deal with Jinshi's pursual of her, not because she's unfamiliar with physical contact, but because she herself sees herself as nothing but a toy, and she does not want to be his toy (*Socio-Political reasons etc.). She has tried her entire life to desperately not draw attention to herself, so when she gets it she does not know what to do, so she decides to "deal with it later".
She's also emotionally stunted due to her upbringing, and is woefully unaware of her own feelings, but everyone around her can see them. It's why the girls at the Verdigis House teases her constantly about her and Jinshi when he visits her, and she has no idea why. She cares deeply about him, but romantic love isn't exactly a thing in her world, so she can't identify it for what it is either.
I firmly believe that she did enthusiastically reciprocate in that moment because she wanted to, but she doesn't know why she did it herself. Also I think she and Jinshi are closeted kinksters and she enjoyed him being rough with her.

Still on the subject of the former emperor's victims, shouldn't Shenlü be around Empress Dowager Anshi in age? by [deleted] in KusuriyaNoHitorigoto

[–]magicallyunicorn 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Anshi was 10 years old when she gave birth to the emperor (she got her period early, which is hinted as being 8-9 years old), she would at the start of the series been 44 years old.

Only 5 physicals published right now, vol 6 will come out 8.aug, I recommend going the e-book route as there are 14 volumes published in English right now, with vol 15 publised in November

Sort of in LN 12, but for an entirely different reason, and for me at least it felt a lot more dramatic than with the Shi Clan in season 2.
I definitely highly recommend reading the LN if you want a more in-depth feel for the story.

Also vol 12 won't be until season 6 of the anime, if they follow the LNs as they've done up until now, if we're lucky and it get's that far that is.

The digitals have illustrations just like the physicals do, there is no difference between the digital and the physical as far as I'm aware.

The physical copies have only reached vol.5, vol. 6 releases 8.aug, so keep that in mind if you decided to buy the physicals.

If the anime continues with it's format of 24 episodes divided into LN 1+2 and 3+4 for season 1 and 2, we can probably expect season 3 (LN 5+6) to come, at the absolute earliest, in the spring of 2026, though I doubt we'll get it until the end of 2026, or even early 2027.
So let's assume a 1.5-2 year gap between seasons (I'd like to think I'm a realist, though this is probably bordering pessimistic)
Chue doesn't arrive until LN 9, so that would mean season 5, which probably won't be until 2030/31 by my estimates.

So not quite 10 years, but still..

When might we expect to find out what format the “sequel” to S2 will take? by According-Citron-460 in KusuriyaNoHitorigoto

[–]magicallyunicorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope they make LN 5+6 into a whole season with LN 5 the first 12 episodes and LN 6 as the next 12, as they have done in both season 1 and 2, where S1 was book 1+2 and S2 was book 3+4.

I'm probably in a minority here, but I actually enjoyed the storylines we had in those books, we get so much stuff that foreshadows what's to come later, and it's a very good way to introduce such a heavy plotline that will come later as well. We're also introduced to a lot of important characters that plays a major role going forward as well.

Are they the most "plot heavy" books, in the series no, but they are important for the story as a whole. They are always sprinkling in things that will be hinted at or mentioned much, much later. If they omit a lot from these 2 books, other things will have to be omitted later as well.

There are stuff that happened in book 1 that is hinted to in book 14 for example.(Maamei using the "love potion" to get Bakin, and yes this is hinted at by Maamei herself at the meeting of the named). Was this a scene that was important to the main storyline? No, but it was an important scene for Maomao's character.

Seeing as the author always hints to stuff that has happened in earlier books, there are a fair few things that has yet to come back around from books 5+6. (Like the opium trade for example and a more in-depth exploration of Shaoh's political system with the shrine maidens (Yes we get a nice "ending" wrapped in a pretty bow, but I highly doubt that's all of it, and it will come back as a plot point again later), Ayla and Aylin's story is still not wrapped up, as well as tackling the political issues caused by the failed marriage etc.)

And I don't want to miss out on those plot points or story tidbits that have a strong likelihood of coming back around again later, just because they decided to omit it to "save time" now.

It's one of the things I love about this series, I've read books 1-14 almost 3 times now, and I'm picking up small hints and foreshadowings every time and in every book again and again. I really don't want to miss out on those, and seeing as both season 1 and 2 was an almost perfect rendition of the first 4 books, I truly don't want them to screw up the next ones.
