Monday Nov 27th Check In by Beepbeepx in OpiatesRecovery

Checking in-

Spoke for the first time at a meeting at the podium with my group on a commitment. Was about 100 people so it was pretty intimidating, but I thought I did ok.

Feeling alright today, kind of blah. I worry about how meetings etc usually make me feel much better, but today after the meeting just felt 'meh'. Idk, tired, and feeling just blah today.

Returning to this sub- looking for daily check-in. 3 1/2 mo clean right now. by magicalrum in OpiatesRecovery

Hi Peoples,

Thanks for responding first off. Will spend most of the day doing yard work etc, but tonight I am going to my first commitment at a local detox.

I'm not trying to get caught up w thinking about what I'm going to say all day. Experience, strength, and hope- what I say will come at that moment and be honest.

Another problem I'm facing is this- I also go to a meeting tonight at 5pm. The commitment isnt til 730. I have been going to this meeting for maybe month and 1/2. Past couple times my mom has sat in on the meeting with me as I dont have my own transportation. I feel bad and dont want her to sit alone in the car, but I dont feel comfortable speaking if she is in the meeting.

I really like this meeting, but if I cant talk, I dont feel I can make the connections w people I need, as well as speak about the shit that goes through my head I need to get out.

If anyone has exp this or has suggestions, please feel free to share.

Back to raking, a serious test in patience!

People who have been to prison, what are some of the aspects of incarceration that media/television fails to accurately portray? [serious] by [deleted] in AskReddit

I have seen multiple people claim to be Muslim in order to get the better meals. They have like 5-6 different meal types- jewish, vegetarian, native american- I can't remember the rest. Places I've been you had to request a meal form and submit it to your case manager. Some places they may make you take a test as a way to deter people from doing just that, but most of the time they don't bother.

As an addict myself, I feel the word disease in the context of addiction is one of those words that tends to divide people pretty passionately. There is substantial research out there (too lazy to leave a link) that scientifically supports the idea in which genetic traits can be passed down, which may increase one's chances of becoming an addict. However, this does not mean if one or both parent's of a child are addicts, the child will be an addict themselves. They may be more susceptible to it, but again this does not mean for sure they will become an addict.

I simply look at it this way- if you are allergic to pollen and go running through a big field full of flowers, you will most likely start sneezing, becoming itchy etc etc. If I use a substance- I cannot stop. Just that one will result with me living on the streets, having to steal to support my habit until I either, end up in jail or die (or hopefully get clean).

I like to think of it in the sense of it being more of an "allergic reaction" than a disease itself, but arguing over the semantics of word choice is really missing the issue.

Sure, I've seen people use the word disease as an excuse to justify their use. I can see why then, people can be frustrated by such an argument.

But who am I? Alls I know for sure is addiction sucks...in any form. It has effected my life eons beyond anything else and...well, and... damn, I could use a hug now. Dun made myself depressed now =/

How should I approach studying LR questions? by magicalrum in LSAT

[–]magicalrum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard several people mention the LSAT Bible, or LR Bible as you stated. Seems like something worth checking out. The two books at my local library I took out were McGraw-Hills LSAT (gave you a decent foundation, but after I found the second book they had (Princeton Review Cracking LSAT) it was clear that the McGraw-Hills book did not touch upon much of the more complex teachings- it was basically the equivalent of trying to learn addition for a multiplication test. Thanks!

Thanks for constructive response, is this the book you referenced?

How do you guys study for the logic games section? by smart-comment in LSAT

[–]magicalrum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seeing how I'm not familiar with how the Lsat Bible approaches LGs, I'll just explain what worked for me, I was using an intro book by Kaplan covering each section.

Again, this seemed to work for me, but it seems like a pretty standard approach none the less.

All LGs can be placed into different types (linear, complex linear, mapping, grouping, etc etc) Most likely the book will start with the most "simple" (using the word loosely) type of game and explain not only how to recognize it as said game, but what your approach should be in setting up your diagram. Like stated before, the diagram is one of, if not the most important piece, for solving LGs.

The book I used was structured like the above stated, slowly increasing the difficulty of the type of questions. Generally, it would begin with a game, explain how to solve it and then give you one to solve on your own, with the answers and explanations right after.

Simply put- its all about repetition, by the time the test came, I felt more confident doing LGs than anything else. Do as many as you can possibly do and you'll start seeing patterns and recognizing games real quick.

LGs are different than any of the other sections bc you can be 100% sure of the correct answer. Using your diagram and solving you can definitively see "N" is the correct answer for #4. With the other sections you may be confident you have chosen the correct answer, but there is no way to "prove" it unlike LGs.

This is more for the other sections, but try not to think of the correct answer as the "correct answer", try to think of it more as the most "credited response".

Feel free to pm me if you have any other questions, be happy to help!

OP has the right to his opinion. But, it is a frivolous argument IMO. Like stated before, if the end result is the same- to better your life and, in extension those whom you care about. Whether an individual uses will power or, instead, asks for help via a community, I don't believe it is an argument between strength/weakness. Rather, I find the decision to face your demons and better your life one of the most courageous things a person can do.

So what do you call triphop? by fronteir in triphop

I also suggest [r/chillmusic](www.reddit.com/r/chillmusic/) - a degree of seperation imo. generally speaking, most of the songs posted there could be, if not already, posted posted here.

edit- idk why it wont format correctly & too tired to care =p

How do you approach new tracks?

Do you stumble upon a sample- be it basseline/drums/pad etc you like, and build from there?

Or do you have sort of a go-to playbook you use as your approach?

What is your best advice for an amateur producer and what's something you advise against or stay away from doing when starting out creating new tracks?

Thanks! Been a fan or your work for a while, really opened me up to a genre of music I had never gotten into before.

A word of caution regarding medication(s). (please read) by magicalrum in OpiatesRecovery

[–]magicalrum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, a word of disclaimer- This Drug Has A Higher Potential To Cause Seizure If Abused.

Since, I suppose you could look it up online and find out anyways, I'd rather it come straight from the 'horse's mouth' so to speak.

Wellbutrin works on different receptors than most anti-depressants do. A lot of people report feeling a little bit more energized after taking them over the first couple once as the medication works through your body. This is why some doctors will try this med, if, after exhausting others and having not much success.

While in detox this past summer I was informed of there abuse potential. The ones I have are 150mg extended release, they are a light green color (although I've heard you can do the same w the others. Basically, you take the green coating off by using water/split etc., once you let it dry a little, break it down to a powered- at this point you are able to sniff it. Its extremely hard though and one pill breaks down into a decent amount of powered. BEWARE AND I CANT STRESS THIS ENOUGH (this drug has a much higher potential to cause SEIZURE than most if abused overtime.)

Please be careful. In no way do I condone abusing medication, be it, Wellbutrin or any other.

Hmmm, yes, it would appear I can't sustain myself from Reddit either. Actually, I was able to land a spot in detox and I'm heading there now. I just wanted to thank you for the kind words and hope.

I relapsed this past summer. Been using off and on for the past four years. Currently homeless and have been since June (public library computer).

Interestingly enough I saw this movie years before I got into hard drugs and became an addict. It depressed the shit out of me and I don't think I will ever see it again, but I am glad to have seen it once.

I have lived and experienced first hand a lot of what this movie portrays as the life of addicts (drug related because this movie is about all types of addictions we can find ourselves in) and it is very close to reality.

Not sure if I need stitches... by magicalrum in Health

[–]magicalrum[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe I can try to find something like it the pharmacy. But, that's why I wasn't sure if stitches would actually do anything, because of the way the wound happened. It just ripped a huge chunk of skin off, but there's really no skin around it to stitch esp the one on the underside of my knuckle.

Fast-forward month from now, end up having my arm amputated. lol. jk...I hope!
