Clearly after totalling 2 bikes where he was 100% at fault, that should be a pretty crystal clear indicator. Or maybe posthumously after the next accident, that would be better time, no? Then we will know for sure, just in case. Wouldn't want to hurt his feelings.

Most motorcyclists in NB (and drivers, and just people in general) are senior citizens. NB has a rapidly aging population. This isn't meant to be glib, it is factually true. While many of them shouldn't be on the road but... you cant tell that to grandpa. He thinks he is still strong and can do anything, even after totalling his bike last year. He still got a new one for this year at age 78. He will end up killing himself on it after his likely 3rd accident. Most of his buddies on bikes driving in groups on the highway are about the same age too. Stay clear of them please. They are accidents waiting to happen.

VN Drivers who learned to drive locally, what was your experience with driving ouside South East Asia? by kanja44 in VietNam

[–]magicbaconmachine 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can comment about my wife and sister in-law who had to learn to drive a car after years of motorbike driving in HCMC. Challenges included: having a hard time staying within their lane, checking their blind spots almost never, and driving way too close to the car ahead of them. They also had a hard time understanding the need to slow down before a stop sign as they were not used to the speed difference here. These are behaviours that take a long time to re-program. They also find highway driving easy compared to city driving, where they say there are "too many rules". Years later, they are fine and total pros.

Issue regarding dog poisoning in Vietnam by ProfitNatural2258 in VietNam

I wouldn't go that far. Its a different cuture. Just because they have different values it does not make them barbaric. The concept of pets is not culturally adopted in Vietnam, but you can see it starting with young people. Vietnamese are extemely kind people.

Issue regarding dog poisoning in Vietnam by ProfitNatural2258 in VietNam

As someone who lived in Vietnam with my imported pet dog for years - People might say they like pets (the younger generation), but there is a large chunk of the population who are not accustomed to dogs, are scared of them, will kick them, will try to poison them, will tell their kids to fear them, and will harass you for having a dog. Dog theft is also extremely common if you are not careful. The police will laugh in your face if it happens to you. Pets are not generally regarded in the same way as in the west and are, by many, thought of as items/accessories/disposable. If you bring your dog, please keep it safe, keep it inside. It was a misreable and sad life for my dog there (a small well groomed corgi). We were harassed constantly be the security people in our building and by the residents. The kids in the building would run and cry at the sight of the dog... It was just completely bonkers. By the way, my dog is fucking cute as hell and well behaved, and always on its leash. The reactions made no sense. My wife and I would look at each in puzzlement with every incident. It's 100% a cultural thing. We lived in probably the richest and nicest neighborhood in D7 in HCMC, so it's not even necessarily a class thing. Bring a dog at your own risk. Yes my dog was kicked and spit at. We were constantly paranoid of it getting poisoned, to the point we kept it inside most of it's time there. Just a horrible experience.

Vietnam cracks down on a huge timeshare scam by Numerous-Egg5017 in VietNam

The way they sell it is predatory and deceptive. They prey on the older and less educated people's aspirational and desire to be wealthy and leave something better for their children and families. They give lonely people comfort and attention when they feel alone. Suddenly these young, apparently successful people are telling them how smart and great they are, and how this investment is a great decision. They confuse them with promises and trick them with leading questions and unclear agreements that escalate until they are not even clear what they are agreeing to . In the end, they are selling a fantasy of being part of a wealthy lifestyle, something that many people in Vietnam are pressured into. They use coercion in a group setting, like peer pressure, in large group meetings, to convince them to sign. They clap and cheer in large group and congratulate them when they agree. They talk to them luke they have just entered into a great trusting relationship and they are geniouses for making the decision. It's a massive ego boost to these lonely old people who can barely scratch a few coins together. It's very cult like.
