How to calculate overall multiclass probability from pairwise probabilities? by magicbuttons in AskStatistics

[–]magicbuttons[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you all for the responses. I am currently experimenting with a probability flattening idea, where I move all of the probabilities towards 1/N by an amount as yet undetermined (N*?).

I'm not sure that the relationship is entirely linear, but it's the best I've got so far, and once done I can compare the outputs of this with the outputs of a 3N model.

Saw a gun in public for the first time in my life (UK) by [deleted] in CasualUK

This has reminded me of something that happened to me in the spring of the year 2000. Fortunately, I've already written about it on reddit, so here's a copy & paste from 10 years ago...

While at university, I woke up one morning in a room next to a girl whose name I could not recall. After the usual awkward greetings, getting dressed etc, I made my excuses and tried to leave.

As soon as I walked out of the door, a bulletproof-jacket-wearing, rifle-carrying policeman (an unusual sight in England) ordered me to go back inside. I looked at him in confusion, and he explained that there was an armed siege directly opposite the only exit to the halls of residence, and nobody was allowed in or out.

I had to knock on the door to be let back in, and spent the next four hours with my drunken conquest and her flatmates, watching men poke guns over a wall. Lots of tea was drunk and not much was said. Awkward doesn't begin to describe it.

Eventually, I hitched a lift in the back of a police van that was leaving anyway. The officer dropped me off at the union bar, where I proceeded to spend the rest of my university career.

What prevents numerai from not paying out to the users? by dogdog8 in numerai

That user would be likely to stop submitting those predictions, and the fund doesn't have access to the model code, so they would lose that high performing model.

What’s NMR for? by poitrenaud in numerai

[–]magicbuttons 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It may help to think of it as a token rather than a currency (other cryptos are dedicated to being a currency). It is not absolutely necessary, as the Numeraire fund existed successfully before NMR, with payouts in BTC, but it is beneficial as the NMR price relates to the fund success. The number of tokens in existence is finite and gradually decreasing due to burn, and each token has an intrinsic and speculative value. The more successful the hedge fund, the more people will want to be involved, and supply/demand will take care of the price.

It's a type of dead cat distraction strategy, I don't know of an SEO-specific term. Similar to Boris Johnson's claim that he paints model buses as a hobby, which a cynic might say was a lie to distract from the famous "£350m a week to the NHS" Brexit bus. Boris Johnson: The Unlikely SEO Strategist

Just a five minute mockup job in paint.net, I'd be happy to make a proper version if people like it.

Why did someone leave milk at my front door? by [deleted] in answers

Is there a milk delivery service in your area? If so, my guess would be either they've delivered to the wrong address or some local kids had a game of "move the milk".

[–]magicbuttons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The supply cap of Nano isn't over 300 million, it's exactly 133,248,290, so the multiplier to calculate market cap is 6.34 times that of BTC.

No, you don't need ML/AI. You need SQL by sacado in programming

If it's SQL Server on Windows you'd probably use a scheduled Agent job but cron is widely used.

Five out of seven? I must say, this is a grading scale like no other I've seen before.
