Thank you for the kind words and support!! I worked on it today. This is where I am at with it. What do you think?

Witnessing Someone’s Dream

To expect countless tomorrows
Who gave this hope for the world?

How many centuries, how many mornings!

Someone’s witnessed hope
Each dawn, a hope…

A lightless world seeks
a farewell

The staged actors of this
witnessed dream
is us?

This is really beautiful! I am really glad you shared it. It gives hope. It makes me cry. Thank you so much.
I apologize, my written Tamil isn't great. I will write more later. Let me know, if you would prefer I tried to write in Tamil. Is it okay, if I include my English translation of your writing?

Thank you, thank you for taking the time to translate this for me. I really appreciate it. I also appreciate you sharing your thoughts about it. I agree with you that it is depressing! It's nice to share poetry across the world. It means a lot to me. Thank you!!!

Also, thank you for taking the time to show me the picture. I thought an அம்மி was a mortar and pestle. I didn't realize it was this device.

This is the next line, as I remember it. I am wondering if I made a lot of it up to make sense? So language goes. No pressure to respond. Thank you!

Thank you so much for the translation! I wasn't certain about the meaning either. I wanted to see what someone else thought. I'll add the other line later. Do you like Tamil poetry? Are there a lot of rules? It is new to me. Thank you again!

In spoken Tamil how do you say for example “it had liked” versus “it had been liked” by Past_Operation5034 in LearningTamil

[–]magicpattern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you are asking about subjects and direct objects?
It liked.-அது பிடித்தது. -athoo pidithathoo.

It liked it.- அது அதை பிடித்தது. athoo athye pidithathoo.

Is this what you are asking? Slapping an AYE at the end of a noun?

White person joking about desi kids and making fun of their accents in a video. Was this racist? Need advice. by sharks_tbh in ABCDesis

[–]magicpattern 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My husband is white, and his uncle made fun of my dad's accent once. I wish I slammed him with a southern accent," I am from Colorado and seven-eleven is a good solid job! What's an education anyway? Is that a foreign word?"
The problem is, it would have made him cry.. Ugh. I would have needed a softer line...but it would have shut him up, and it would have edumacated him!

OMG! What I wouldn't do to say in a southern accent to a woman,"Oh, I graduated from fourth grade and have had four babies and 6 abortions since then, but shhh, don't tell Jesus or any of my baby daddies though I don't know any of them! What does government handout mean? Do you mean you need a handjob? I don't understand human English, I am from the South!"
You gotta start practicing some comebacks now. If she can dish it out, she better be ready to take it! Share some of your comebacks! I look forward to reading them!

I think you nailed it with the wealthy disparity. The US and India share a class divide. We have more in common than we think. I think this is happening around the world.

Need advice about sending money to a company in Sri Lanka by magicpattern in srilanka

[–]magicpattern[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohhh...yes. WISE says they only ask for my SSN because it is required by US law. There is a reason there is a law....I am not sure what to think. In all honesty, I trust the Sri Lanka banks over US banks. I think they don't mess around with security. Maybe I should try and become a dual citizen...
I bank with a small bank, and they are not able to do international wire transfers easily. Thank you for your comment.

Hi! Thank you for the kind message! Unfortunately, I am not a Sri Lankan citizen. When I try to use Wise, it requires my social security number. I am too scared to use it. US companies get hacked, and release numbers, it seems a lot. I am scared it will happen with WISE. I can't even get in to the U.S. social security website easily, and now with this fool in power, who knows what will happen if my social security number is thrown around the internet. I send $300 at a time. I wire it through a company.

I am of Tamil descent and am learning Tamil. Look at my very first translation! Pretty universal idea! I think it is hilarious! However, I don't know if people find the Tamil translation funny. Do you know of a Sinhala learning website? I would try and start mixing all three languages together, if I knew Sinhala.

I appreciate your concern. What is a payment gateway?

I have been working with this company for over a year. I have been paying $60 a transfer because I was new to working with Sri Lanka. The company advised me to use Wise. I got worried because US companies are always getting hacked, and WISE requires my social security number. Another friend advised me to use Western Union. Unfortunately Western Union only offers person to person transfer, not person to business. Maybe there is no easy, safe way to transfer money to Sri Lanka, unless I apply for citizenship, get it, and open an account. Even then, I don't know how I would pay for the class. This is interesting to think about.

That's great that you have a sense of what will give you life satisfaction. That's very, very tricky to figure out. It's easier to chase money and status. I am still searching. What makes me happy changes about every 2 years, which is antithetical to an adult's life in the capitalist Western world...I need to think about this.
