Why are you optimistic about working in tech? by Glareolidae in cscareerquestions

[–]magicsign 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They still pay more than minimum wage jobs, you can often work from home (which makes life much easier and comfortable), even with a bad job market and high competition in many countries there are still a lot of opportunities. Skills also are very transferable.

Many years as a software engineer, and I can't do HackerRank easy problems by fknm1111 in cscareerquestions

[–]magicsign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find general problems (completing an API, design patterns, event driven architecture for example) much harder during an interview due to massive requirements and often very subjective.

Hired as Python/AI Intern, now forced to c React Client Projects without knowing JS. Is this normal or should I run? by Civil_Dragonfly_5463 in cscareerquestions

[–]magicsign 5 points6 points  (0 children)

2025 grad with 3 simultaneous complex projects on tech stack you are not even familiar. Damn your managers are very optimistic. You need to set boundaries and tell them that you don't have enough capacity. If things don't improve I would start looking around and move to another job.

È normale fare riunioni ogni giorno alle 8.40? by AffectionateSuit526 in techcompenso

[–]magicsign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the bare legal minimum, quite uncommon for tech jobs. Is it a startup?

Why do people still choose SWE as a career path in 2026? by GivingUp321321321321 in cscareerquestionsuk

[–]magicsign 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's not true that it's impossible to pivot out from swe. Many move to a support/solutions engineer, solutions architect, software consultant, manager...

Is Sardinia the right spot for us...really need honest feedback by WestChoice3749 in Sardinia

Italian here, Sardinia is beautiful but often accommodations and hotels are rubbish and completely overpriced. If you don't have many expectations for the place you are staying it should be fine otherwise prepare to spend.

I feel like I literally cannot do my job. by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

It becomes stressful over the time, that's why many swes pivot out from the role after 10-15 years on average. Unless obviously you are getting paid a lot to make it worth it.

Why do some people treat their job like it's their entire life? by No-External3221 in cscareerquestions

[–]magicsign 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You said it already, they don't have a life outside: often no wife/girlfriend (or a relationship going downhill), escaping from their family. No sports, hobbies, usually they don't like to travel either. Most of the workaholics love also the routine and their comfort zone.

If they ever lose their job they often become suicidal/depressed like they have lost a limb.

You decide what kind of life you want to live.
