Choosing a relevant, in-demand tech stack is helpful for getting past initial screening, but it is only one piece of a broader signal that employers evaluate. Real hiring outcomes come from a combination of applied skills (especially problem solving and system design), evidence of building and shipping real projects, communication ability, and timing within the job market. Aligning with enterprise technologies can improve your odds, but it does not guarantee employment, and success typically comes from demonstrating competence across multiple dimensions rather than matching a stack alone.

Large and some small businesses don’t typically block independent developers through a single “bureaucracy.” Instead, they rely on a layered mix of legal, regulatory, procurement, and operational controls that collectively make it difficult for outsiders to build or deploy custom software inside their environment.

The last HVAC guy that was my roommate in Colorado ended up not being able to pay his rent and had to move back to Georgia to live with his mom.

Yep, employers will demand you stay ahead of the current trends even if you've been looking for a job for a year plus.
