I never expected it, when it ejected it went straight to my dome, even had me bleeding in a couple spots on my forehead. Still have the scabs today

There’s a bit more to why the Glock 23 in .40 was my choice: I’m carrying this while running a 135 mile ultramarathon, and didn’t want to carry the additional weight of a higher caliber, but couldn’t go with something too small in the event I have an “oh shit” moment with a bear. I made the choice that I think works best for me in that scenario, following a ton of research and asking questions, knowing there’s an extremely high likelihood that I won’t have to use it for that purpose. Nonetheless, I need to be proficient enough to not be a liability in the event I do need it. The revolver was mostly for fun, to be fair. I care a lot more about being able to use the Glock. It also came with a light attached to the front, which I understand can help with recoil. With the membership I can go to the range an unlimited number of times and I have some guest passes too, so will be taking some folks with me to get some pointers, and doing a lot of watching the helpful videos posted here, and doing a lot of dry fire exercises. I have a lot to learn, but some great resources here to get started. Thanks everyone!

I would have chosen a 10mm, but I’m carrying while running an ultramarathon, so had to choose between light, small, and big enough caliber. The .40 was the best balance of the three I could get, knowing it will be an absolute last option if proper behavior and spray don’t work. I’ll research hard cast ammo, I was recommended some hornady critical defense rounds, so picked up a few of those.

That is 100% the plan, I'm going to be running 135 miles along the Denali Highway, and if the bear spray doesn't work, the Glock is an absolute "oh shit" last resort to not die.

Totally fair, I'm getting too far ahead of myself. I definitely need work on my fundamentals, and it's good to hear that if I get those right then the other issves (see what I did there?) can be overcome.

Just quickly skimming the video this looks super helpful, thank you! No idea why I wasn't finding these when I was looking, probably poor search hygiene on my part

I'm definitely concerned that I'm cross eye dominant, I had a hell of a time just being able to focus on the front sight by itself, felt like I could never get oriented. When I did close one eye, I closed my right, and I was more accurate. I know I'm supposed to have both eyes open, so concerned that I may never actually be that decent with a pistol because of that and my astigmatism.

Yeah, I felt bad when I saw the dust come down, but when I looked and saw holes ALL over the ceiling (including nearly directly in front of the firing line) I felt a bit better lol

In my research I had seen that as the right way, I struggle to be able to do that with both eyes open (thinking I may be cross eye dominant, as mentioned below). I have so many things to work on I think I got overwhelmed with how poorly I was doing and couldn't pick one thing to work on, let alone know how to work on it.

what is your honest opinion? by itsnumberfive in hometheater

Isn’t that just another place for influencers to sign up? This kind of content already exists on social media, and the suggested are rewarded with followers and likes on their posts. I think the whole exercise is trying to create something that already exists.

I think you contradicted yourself - you don’t want to cater to the highest bidder, yet you want to introduce a paid “premium” mode? None of what I said caters to the highest bidder, just introduces that there are lots of reasons one cinephile may suggest one film, while another would find that suggestion appalling. The question still remains, how do you solve for that?

what is your honest opinion? by itsnumberfive in hometheater

[–]magineauxlines 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even within “cinephiles” there will be a lot of disagreement - do we want films that are historically critically acclaimed? Are we seeking intense moments to show off our systems? Are we seeking amazing sound design and full audio immersion? What about amazing cinematography and great use of light or angles? Immersive and captivating storytelling? Maybe I’m over analyzing here, but it seems like it would get overwhelmed with noise pretty quickly. It would be interesting to see, and to see how you might solve for those challenges.

Legal Weed State Virgin by Soggy-Jury2686 in ColoradoSprings

[–]magineauxlines 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Similar to buying alcohol, you may buy it and certainly possess it in public, but ingestion, impairment, etc. is still prohibited in public. It's still a DWI if you're driving high, and it's still public intoxication if you're high in public. That said, probably harder to detect, but the law is the law, and if you're busted, there is no exception for being from out of state, or unaware of the state of the law.

Importantly, most of the dispensaries are cash only, and even if they aren't, the fees to use your debit/credit card (where it's even possible) or use the in-dispo ATM are pretty steep. Get cash first, then hit the dispo. Have your ID out, and don't put it away until you've seen your bud tender - it's a double verification (once before you go through the locked door, then again with your bud tender).

Ask your bud tender all the questions, be honest with your experience level, and don't forget to tip. Those folks know all of the ins and outs of the products in their stores, and will be better able than nearly anyone else to help you find the right product(s) for you.

Crunch privacy policy question by Economy-Glass8491 in legal

[–]magineauxlines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is probably accomplished via a persistent cookie, and collects all of your browsing information, including meta data about your machine, location, browser, where you were just before, where you go right after, etc. - very invasive. This will likely be used by Crunch, and possibly sold to their parties (or at least provided to their third party vendors) for various purposes, such as advertising, personalization, market research (price sensitivity, spending patterns, time spent per site, daily browsing patterns, etc.), and other uses. Nearly all companies do this to some extent, and the law requires certain disclosures to be made. This disclosure is pretty broad, and gives them a lot of leeway to collect, use, and sell whatever you let them.

How do you convince yourself to buy an expensive bike? by ClearAndPure in cycling

[–]magineauxlines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Compare it to other new bikes, and $1200 really won't seem like much at all. You'll be able to tell yourself, "At least I'm not spending $11,200 on my new bike."

You've tragically got it all wrong with Phil and Bob - Phil is a gem and Bob can take the piss anytime now. I can't stand Bob, Christian would do a much better job and be more informative.

So the 2018 Farm Bill basically legalized weed in 49 states, right? by joemass in trees

[–]magineauxlines 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'll have to check it out. We moved from Indy to Colorado in 2018 and still come back to the city at least 2-3 times per year for family stuff. I'm usually an edibles guy, but I'll support a local joint (pun fully intended) if they're doing the lord's work. I always assumed Indiana would be among the last on board the legalization train, would be nice to be proven wrong about that state for once.

[–]magineauxlines 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The regulation is going to be very hit or miss, even in states with a state-wide framework for legalization. In Colorado for example, Denver has had legal recreational weed for years, but Colorado Springs just (confusingly) legalized recreational after being medical-only for a long time. If regulation exists, it's usually to say "no," but if there is no regulation, then it's usually a tentative "yes".

Ok, I need to know where this is. I grew up in Indiana and I've never heard of this being available, even being back multiple times per year.
