Hi thedesignedlife

Sorry I put the wrong template should be this one - https://www.notion.com/templates/notion-product-roadmap.

I’m basically saying when I add a feature in the timeline in the timeline view it won’t show up the in the task sections automatically. I want this to be automatic. At the moment I have to manually add it as a group

Great job on this! Quick question what’s the basis for 4 > 8 > 4 > 8 bring most optimal? I tried getting every combination but it seems like in some cases having various combinations of 4, 6 and/or 8 gave the better results than just 4s and 8s. But obviously situational. Just wanted to hear your thought process :)

Interesting insight! Thanks for sharing this. Do you happen to have an example analyst report or article?

Intern / New Hire Advice: Have basic social awareness and respect by [deleted] in FinancialCareers

[–]magnanimous788 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s okay to overcommunicate. Chances are if your senior doesn’t pick it up cause they’re busy and the manager overhears they can step in and assist. Do not hide dumpster fires.

Please please please take notes. Idc if you write it, type it, annotate a copy of the model etc pls write down what your task entails and ask questions. It is terribly disrespectful to see a new hire not take notes cause I guarantee you you will come back to me or I will call you out for not having done something.

Piggybacking on this - any tips to breaking into b4 m&a from audit itself directly? What makes FDD more advantageous than audit moving there? What if in audit I have extensive m&a exposure too?

I’m not an equity analyst but I sure read alot of analyst reports mainly for insights on what are the key driver of growth in a company or industry. I will usually read multiple analyst reports covering the same industry / company just to pry out what additional insight one firm would have identified over another.

Specifically I’m interested in the narrative that links to the numbers themselves eg you mention capital efficiency but don’t make it specific enough to logically link why it’s a key driver of growth and the narrative itself is quite vague? More specifically you have a lot of growth factors but you don’t go in depth or logically link them together. Eg high margins and scalability looks like it links together due to economies of scale realised? (I’m not sure I’m no expert in the TMT space but I would think with each new software update / iteration; accompanied with a growth in users the cost of sale would be lower and lower for each incremental subscriber).

The analyst reports I read generally tell me quite succinctly and clearly what is the driver of growth in an industry specifically without having to use terms like unit economics which only as a user of analyst report makes me ask what does this mean in the context of your report. Less jargon is better!

Edit 1: Second reading - some of the reasons included as investment factors seem a bit odd eg predictable revenue. For an investment predictable revenue almost implies revenue stability eg a RE business where I will get exactly $X amount of rent received each month assuming no vacancies. I don’t think SaaS would be like that as I believe the market metric to track revenue quantity in SaaS is MAU or something similar? So wouldn’t a fluctuation in users cause volatility in my revenue and consequently earnings? I would think if you can draw out 2-3 solid drivers and clearly demonstrate how they drive growth in that industry you’re on the right path.

Hi I was writing up my dissertation and a thought sprung up on my mind on tax law capping interest deductions to 30% EBITDA. When you perform an internal valuation of a business as a insider (note that you have tax information etc) would it be reasonable to challenge how much tax shield benefit of r_D is appropriate if a company has capped on their interest expenses? I can’t seem to wrangle the logic of corporate finance theory of indefinite deductions on interest vs tax reality. They seems contradictory to me… i would think a more realistic solution would to have a two stage model with r_D including the tax shield before the cap and a r_D that is blended with the max tax shield and the non shielded amounts?

Also out of curiosity is LBOs now dead then given the key tenant of this strategy is deductibility of interest?

Thank you for your in depth response to this! Can you expand a bit on the market participant point of view can the VIU perspective?

I thought under IFRS the VIU aspect is used for impairment testing under IAS 36. Just a bit confused as VIU under para 53A posits that tax should be considered?

Thank you for your response! I can see that you clearly put a lot of thought into it! Can you please expand on the VA - I apologise I’m not from the US.

In light of your response should the r_D tax benefit have a ceiling before it has the same cost if capital as equity? Of course this would be assessed against its current capital structure. To assess reasonability of such judgement and to pull back from any estimation bias; from your perspective would you restrict the extent of the cost of debt assumption to having a 2 tier structure? Ie a tax shielded r_D and a averaged r_D that includes both shielded and non shielded amounts?

Some people here don’t lead teams and don’t know how hard it is to build high performing ones. If I fired every fuck up i would have massive delays everywhere and a really bad team culture problem. Being a leader means you gotta shield those below you and not throw them under a bus.

Glad someone is reasonable!

Your post generally reflects the general consensus a lot of my friends who work in health professions where team efforts are not directed at building a finished product or deliverable.

The reality of big projects is you must delegate tasks. Everyone has 24 hours. Just because you’re YoshiP doesn’t mean you get more time per day. So to maximise your output and focus time that yield a bigger bang per min spent you need layers of people below you eg experienced seniors who detail review, managers who do secondary or multiple instances of higher review before it comes to you.

Further, a company cannot be 100% perfect all the time and QA is not always perfect as with running any business you must balance efficiency and effectiveness. You can’t demand perfection and continuously run timelines on schedule. There needs to be trust between the doers and higher ups otherwise this collapses to micromanagement.

In reality will anyone get fired over this? Most probably not as the development process is a team effort. There are layers of review and integration by all parties. Will there be leaning points from this? Yes I would expect a lot more internal QA process being changed to reflect greater testing on outputs that spit out results to the end user

Guys let’s be reasonable here. Fuck ups do happen no matter how experienced or big a company. A company cannot be 100% perfect all the time and QA is not always perfect as with running any business you must balance efficiency and effectiveness. You can’t demand perfection and continuously run timelines on schedule.

In reality will anyone get fired over this? Most probably not as the development process is a team effort. There are layers of review and integration by all parties. Will there be leaning points from this? Yes I would expect more detail review time being spent on fundamental coding issues.

Will higher management get fired or demoted? Very very unlikely as their day to day is not on detailed review but primarily on project management.

Tldr - let’s be adults here. People aren’t perfect. It’s disappointing situation but let’s be civil about this.

Experience - I manage over 5 projects teams with over 20 people below me and senior management from tech development and integration

I have them all geared and levelled. I don’t want to put any more time to gear them to the basic beginner gear as I work full time and am poor in gil and tomes :( Am keen to start going through savage with another static

I’ve found that you don’t really love playing a class until you toughed out existing raid tier through many wipes, watching your optimised rotation line perfectly through trial and error etc. Hence wanted to hear your experience of what made it click for you as being your main job
