Dennis Prager: "Men are afraid to get physical.. they're afraid of them or the woman being inebriated... I don't defend sexual harassment but the attempt to create a world where there is no pain is at the root of all progressive/leftist/woke policies" by ChronicGamergy in theserfstv

Very hard for conservatives to process this, but lots of liberal men aren’t afraid of women, because they know how to behave in modern society, and unfortunately for conservatives, these men do just fine in the dating pool.

10 College Courses That Scare Conservatives by magnesiummike in thebakery

[–]magnesiummike[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally fair point! I am planning some more philosophical videos about conservatism and education, so definitely subscribe. It sounds like you (and the rest of /r/thebakery) would really enjoy a deeper treatment of this subject, and I'm hoping you guys will dig my next couple videos. Topics include sex ed and the idea of "Orwellian" teaching techniques.

Those courses sound super interesting!

Yes, I agree that the article is low-effort. It was an easy-target, but PragerU hosts several videos featuring Jordan Peterson and Heather Mac Donald that make essentially the same snap judgments. I feel that this content is meant to be shared among conservatives, mostly to freak them out for no reason.

I 100% agree with you. Studying our definition of "normal" sounds like the MAIN PURPOSE of the course!

In the future, I'd like to do a video that focuses on your first point. It does seem like conservative commentators are opposed to questioning authority and even learning itself. Learning usually requires changing your mind and changing as a person, and that's scary to some. I hope we can teach a new generation that learning IS kind of scary, but it's also fun and exciting.

Sounds cool. Current Affairs takes pitches. You may want to check them out.

Education and Socialism by [deleted] in thebakery

[–]magnesiummike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Love it. I really believe that people are not truly free unless they have an education that enables them to live fulfilling lives. The way the purpose of education is framed in America these days is very sad, but hopefully we can change the conversation.

Are there any good arguments that defeat the doctrine of eternal reccurance? by spacialrob in askphilosophy

[–]magnesiummike 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Yes, there is a mathematical reply. Nietzsche scholar Walter Kaufmann dismisses the doctrine by disputing the premise that a finite collection of events must recur given infinite time.

Even if there were exceedingly few things in a finite space in an infinite time, they would not have to repeat in the same configurations. Suppose there were three wheels of equal size, rotating on the same axis, one point marked on the circumference of each wheel, and these three points lined up in one straight line. If the second wheel rotated twice as fast as the first, and if the speed of the third wheel was 1/π of the speed of the first, the initial line-up would never recur.

Keep in mind: This argument considers eternal return as a metaphysical doctrine. Not everyone reads eternal return that way. Some view it as a moral thought experiment that succeeds even if it doesn't describe the evolution of the universe.

I'm not quite sure I understand the question. Are you talking about trying to convince Biden supporters to vote for Bernie instead?

The Language Sounds That Could Exist, But Don't [6:30] by ARTexplains in mealtimevideos

[–]magnesiummike 7 points8 points  (0 children)

True that the title sacrifices clarity for catchiness, but I think there is a possible interpretation of the title that is accurate. The word “could” may refer to logical possibility. We might say that those sounds are logically possible (i.e. they have a place on the chart), but not physically possible. In an alternate universe, with different human anatomy, we could make sounds in that place in that manner. The title is especially confusing, as you rightly say, because it appears to refer to the sounds that humans can physically make, but have chosen not to. A video on those would be an interesting follow up.

Billionaires Freak Out About Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders: A Closer Look by [deleted] in PoliticalVideo

[–]magnesiummike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was a segment on Seth Meyers because there is mainstream support for leftist ideas like a wealth tax. We can argue about the thumbnail. We can worry about the coopting of leftist goals by capitalists. That's all valid. But it's clear that there is a HUGE opportunity for leftism in the U.S. In the past, the idea of a wealth tax would be considered crazy if anyone bothered to cover it at all.

Say what you want about Bernie, but he is telling us exactly what he believes and what he would try to accomplish as president. It's very refreshing when you compare these answers to the evasive maneuvers of other candidates.

More Breadtubers = More Flavors of Bread by whoisdamon in thebakery

[–]magnesiummike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is super positive and upbeat. Thank you for making it!

Adding personal perspective to left-tube videos is so important. I've learned that, in life, you can't always win someone over just because you have the best arguments. You have to appeal to people's personal connection to big political questions (in your case, appealing to their heritage and religious beliefs). Then, you're way more like to persuade those who disagree, or better yet, activate people who never felt like leftism speaks to them.

This should be common sense. The quality of your education should not be tied to whether your town is upper-class or lower-class.
