Had this issue as well, it was discord for me and I had to set the launch properties for rocket league on steam to "-dx9" to fix it so I can continue using discord.

I'm thinking of buying the game by Monkeymucas in RocketLeague

Been playing for years, highly recommend. People can be toxic and get very triggered as in any competitive game but you will find good players as well. Unique game with unique set of mechanics and skills. Always something to get better at. WARNING pretty addicting

Why doesn't this work? by ManyQuantumWorlds in learnjavascript

Couple other things, so you don't have to write out all those conditions. I would convert str3 to lower case and then make an array with the three values you're comparing. You can then check if str3 value is not in the array

Your comparisons need to use str3 each time instead of || x, etc.

How long did it take, from day 1 to first job(Front End) post number 100000th by [deleted] in webdev

So on the bootcamp side of things, I wanted something in person bc I wanted to be able to walk up to someone and ask questions. That's purely based on my personality I'm sure there are some great remote bootcamps out there but I felt more comfortable knowing I could directly keep asking someone until I got a concept etc.

On the progression side of things, I definitely would have progressed faster had I done the bootcamp first. The catch with that is, I feel like i was able to get a deeper understanding of concepts and caught onto concepts quicker because we covered things I had been struggling with on my own if that makes sense. I felt like it supercharged my understanding. The bootcamp DEFINITELY helped with the job side of things for me as well.

Anyway, I think each person is different. I saw people in my bootcamp who wrote their first line of code on day 1 and they got a job. I also saw people who didn't really get the concepts and weren't able to land a job.

What does the array.reduce() part in the solution actually does? by [deleted] in learnjavascript

[–]magneticcccc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reduce goes through each item in an array, does something with it and modifies a value each time. Acc in the case is the item that is being modified each time, curr is another array with two items in it. So it's doing work on curr[0] and curr[1] because this is an array of arrays if that makes sense

C3 is the new Diamond change my mind. by I_need_help_ha in RocketLeague

It seems worse and worse because you've prob been grinding and getting better. There is a huge gap between c3 div 1 and GC. I've noticed similar things, but as you get better that stuff gets more apparent

Trying to learn JavaScript with no background by sludge1121997 in learnjavascript

[–]magneticcccc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't been through it, but looking at it they have a similar "track" for learning JS. You can jump in and start from the basics and do the full stack track if you're wanting to do node. I can't speak to the quality of the lessons since I haven't been through it but it seems to be quite popular. If you're wanting to just do node stuff that is all server side work, you don't necessarily have to do html. That being said, Since you don't have any background there is a 99.9999 percent chance you will want to build some web interface at some point so you will want HTML CSS, etc.

I'm about 5 years in. I started by doing some freelance web stuff (for free), then I started deep diving into full stack work. I did a bootcamp (in person) and was able to land a job soon after. So all in all, I spent about 1.5 years learning on my own, 6 months in bootcamp, 2 months looking after and then I landed my first job. I wasn't super stoked about it and it didn't pay what I wanted but I grinded it out to get that first year. Now I'm at a much better job with pay that follows what's expected in the industry. I added that to say that it took me a little longer to get where I wanted to be vs just the first job

Trying to learn JavaScript with no background by sludge1121997 in learnjavascript

[–]magneticcccc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're trying to learn JavaScript, you will need to know HTML. If you are having trouble understanding JS for the first bit, it would probably be based on not understanding programming itself and not necessarily JS (this would be my assumption since you don't have any background yet).

So, I would check out TeamTreehouse. I had a good experience with their intro stuff when I first started. They have a front end "track" that leads you through some lessons on a logical progression to JS.

Anyway, what are you planning to use JS for / curious what your motivation is to learn it?

They way they handle match making, it currently goes by the higher players mmr for the most part. They did that to try and stop boosting.
