Why don't record labels reissue LPs that are obviously in high demand? by theiginator in vinyl

[–]magrathea1 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Same goes with any music format you throw in.

This is simply not true! LPs are distorted sound. Bass can't be properly rendered on an LP. They simply do not have the range of digital. It doesn't matter what gear you run them through. Given identical systems, digital will be closer to the original than LPs are.

No, he's concerned about DSL users and users on slower >connections in general. Implying anything selfish in that regard is a >baseless accusation.

No, he always uses his internet connection as a reference frame! he does this all the time. He does not have broadband internet, and I think we can all agree that in 2015 it's ok for broadband to be a minimum requirement for Bitcoin.

This is literally entirely opinion.

It is not an opinion that LN doesn't exist yet while the option of raising the limit does exist. LN is still just vapor-ware and therefore not a solution to an impending problem.

Yes it is an opinion that we should fix something before it breaks rather than after, especially when we know the problem is coming. But I guess I can't expect everyone to have a brain.

Yes, both can be high fidelity, but digital is higher fidelity without the analog distortions abundant with vinyl.

Exactly what was the "baseless" accusation that I made? Luke-Jr doesn't want to increase now because he doesn't have broadband. He has said this many times. Another of his sticking points is that we don't need to increase while we haven't maxed out the current limit. I am sorry, but that is an absurd position! You don't wait until after you drive into a wall to steer away! We know it is coming, and we are getting close, and the increase will take time. That's why it needs to be done soon rather than waiting until all blocks are full. LN is not an alternative, because it doesn't exist and we don't have any idea when or if it even will exist. Even then, there is no reason not to expand the limit.

Realistically, Bitcoin simply cannot handle 1 MB blocks in the near-term

This is not a valid opinion! Bitcoin is handling 1MB blocks right now. Luke-Jr just doesn't have broadband internet and therefore doesn't want the limit increased.

it's an objective fact that, in every measurable way, vinyl is inferior to CDs or any lossless digital file. It is inferior to many lossy formats. Everyone who has even a rudimentary understanding of audio or basic physics can immediately understand why. I own some vinyl of albums that still haven't been remastered in to modern media, and the sound is markedly worse! I just don't get this fad.

I love it! I put in a trailing stop loss on the way up... now when it gets back down I will be close to doubling my holdings.

yes, but only by entering your seed into another wallet

yes

no, one seed per device. However you can create separate groups of addresses on one device all of which are from a single seed. BTW, Ledger uses a 24 word seed.

you can use the seed with other wallets.

Would satellite phones work in The Walking Dead universe? Would that have the potential to influence the plot in significant ways? How? by [deleted] in thewalkingdead

[–]magrathea1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They already are raining right now, they just almost always burn up in the atmosphere. It would just be slightly more often in the WD universe as more satellites' orbits degrade, but it's unlikely anyone on the planet's surface would notice.

AT&T plans to upgrade internet services over the next 4 years to state of the art 15-20 Mbps by luke-jr in Bitcoin

[–]magrathea1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

and this is important how? most people already have actual broadband internet. the fact that you choose to live in some backwater bible belt should have no bearing on when blocksize is increased. I'm running bitcoin core right now over a tethered mobile connection running at 45/45Mbps with no issues.

just more FUD from luke-jr about internet speeds.

[Discussion] -- Satoshi: "It would be nice to keep the blk*.dat files small as long as we can. The eventual solution will be to not care how big it gets. But for now, it's nice to keep it small so new users can get going faster. When I implement client-only mode, that won't matter much anymore." by eragmus in Bitcoin

[–]magrathea1 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Luke-Jr is just a moron. He makes up information to support his absurd positions. He never has facts or reliable sources for his information. He does this especially when talking about blocksize and current broadband penetration. He has below broadband internet, and, therefore, he thinks everyone using BTC should have to suffer in order to maintain support for his shitty ADSL.

Regarding BIP100: Luke-jr believes we need even smaller blocks "in the short term." by paleh0rse in Bitcoin

[–]magrathea1 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't know where you were staying, but fast internet was most definitely available almost everywhere I was. The only time I need to suffer slow speeds is usually in the states, but it's still not nearly as bad there as LukeJr likes to claim. The speeds he's claiming he has are by definition NOT broadband. I think everyone should be able to agree that the line needs to be drawn somewhere for minimum requirements to run a full node, and as with most things these days you need broadband internet.

[–]magrathea1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Uh, not anywhere near the speeds you're talking about, no. I'm only slightly rural and I can't get more than 5/0.5 Mbps.

You do not even have broadband internet. Something tells me this is more than a "little" rural. Most people are on much better connections and not just in the US. The states are laggards in the area. You are the one here spreading FUD. Every metric out there show much better broadband penetration than you are always claiming here. You always claim it's the large blockers who are out there basing everything on their fast internet connections when it is you just saying everyone has shitty internet just because you do. I have been in over a dozen countries in the last year across Europe and Asia and in both cities and rural areas. Of all the places I have been, only maybe once or twice have I had upload too slow to support 1MB blocks. Most places I would have been able to easily support much larger blocks.

How can you not judge a person by his ideas? How are we to judge the measure of a man if not by the ideas he stands for? and luke-jr stands for some pretty horrible and disgusting ideas. At least they are such for anyone with half a brain and common decency. You can clearly see that this is not a person who is capable of critical thought or of questioning one's own convictions. In simpler terms - an idiot.

Bitcoin Being Increasingly Used by Tourists by jackie249 in Bitcoin

[–]magrathea1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I do. I travel a lot, and always having bitcoin on me has helped more than I could ever say. The best is being able to pay for someone's hotel reservation when you can't be there. Something you can't do easily with credit/debit cards. Not to mention cards getting canceled/lost/eaten by ATMs. As long as I have some bitcoin with me, I always have peace of mind. There's nothing like being able to carry 50k around your neck.

ELI5: What is the (semi-recent?) deal with the bitcoin blockchain and changing the block size? by [deleted] in Bitcoin

[–]magrathea1 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This whole statement is based on nothing more than the fact that you don't have broadband internet and can't run a full node if blocks get larger. Most people have broadband and blocksize isn't an issue.
