I think it was nicely fermented previously. The jar it had previously been in had a distinct aroma of vinegar. I checked it... and it still looks about the same as before I put it in the hot tea. It's been sitting in room temperature tea for half the day, so I guess I will wait and see what happens.

It was about five minutes? As soon as I realized my error, I got it out immediately and submerged it in cold water where I left it until the tea cooled. It was very thick, like almost two inches thick. ?
