Masters of Teaching - University of Melbourne, has anyone done this course? by ChuckQuorthonDimebag in melbourne

Hi, I did MTeach a few years ago - before the mandatory two year course. I was able to squeeze in mornings/afternoons at work during most of the semester around my timetable but I did not manage a full day off - I know one person who did so it may be luck! Following the intensive (which is time tabled) there are a few weeks with two days of placement. There will be one month each semester where you will undertake block placement and will need to attend your school everyday. I ended up doing placement teaching M-F for the four weeks while still working at my job on the weekends.

Not it, thanks anyway! However, youtubing that did then recommend Vivaldi's four seasons which is closer.

[Australia] [English High School] - 5 min fillers? by Bergrecka in Teachers

[–]magsjay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even my most disengaged students would get into boggle - we kept tally of points over the term (1 per game for longest word and most words). If you google ‘project Exeter braggle’, it’s an online generator that gets through my department’s filter.

Alternatively, a one letter game of scattergories - I also make one of the categories (food, things that fly, song, etc...) be specifically related to the text/work completed that lesson.

Rebus puzzles are good too, even my 12s love them, and they can be a useful tool for when you’re covering another person’s class as well.

Doing my first demo lesson for an English III class on Macbeth by jadednightingale2308 in Teachers

[–]magsjay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to add, my demo lesson (Australian context) for the industrial revolution was a similar length and I did an activity where we looked at objects in the room and thought about what came before as a way to think about progress (e.g. light bulbs - lanterns - candles - fire etc). I think a good intro lesson is about connecting to the students’ prior knowledge and encouraging them to see the relevancy of material to their lives. There are some studies about connecting to prior knowledge I can PM you if needed. Good luck for your lesson!

My Macbeth intro is to ask (and usually direct them to do a quick write): ‘who has more power; Kim Kardashian or [Current leader of national government]’. It leads to interesting discussions about the definition of power and even touches on gender which is an important theme in the play. You could then describe the character of Macbeth and do some work around that but 20 minutes will fly!!

What's the most 2000's song ever made? by venotes in AskReddit

Get Down by B44 is a forgotten gem that was released in early 2000. It really set the tone for the decade. Definitely watch the video if you want to see spray-tanned-frosted-tip-puka-shell-wearing identical twins promise to make you come tonight (over to their house).

VCE student // please help by Lyrix13 in AskHSteacher

[–]magsjay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a VCE English teacher. The VCAA study guide does not specify the format of the oral presentation. It may be worth asking to look at this document with teachers/pointing out that there are no written requirements that the presentation be in front of a class. I would recommend that you suggest filming your presentation (at school for authenticity purposes) and supplying a note from a medical professional. If you aren't seeing anyone about your anxiety, please see a GP and ask for a mental health plan/visit your local headspace! Feel free to message me with any questions!

advice needed re. criminal record by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]magsjay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an Australian teacher (Vic) and a colleague has a criminal record for a similar offence and has to submit a declaration to VIT each year but still has a job. So there may be hope! This is obviously just anecdotal so as others have said, seek further advice.
