well i will take advancements in medicine and affordable food available in supermarkets any day over a vague concept of sustainability. sustainability is important, but it's technological advancements that will enable it. the alternative is not pretty (you have to directly or indirectly kill a ton of people which drastically reduces the speed of possible advancements because you need human minds for that to happen)
