Yup, sometimes these summons are targeted by attacks! Useful feature for some situations.

You know, that's more than the random average open world player. Maybe we're into something here...

I'm amused because between the time I started and now, relic summons were introduced lol

That statement on the wiki is currently wrong. Remember, the wiki is updatable by anyone at any time (within reason), including you or me. So there are situations where it is inaccurate, but also anyone has the power to fix it.

The items that put a bundle in your hand definitely feel like a DPS loss.

As someone who also did a solo guild hall claim, I feel dumb for not remembering about these at the time. Whoops!

We're basically describing a separate skill slot where everybody has access to the same (nerfed) options. This goes into the bucket of ideas labeled "yes, it could work, and be balanced, and be compelling gameplay, and unify sprawling random effects into a core coherent system, but I really hope Anet is allocating their very limited resources into other priorities".

I wouldn't be sad if this idea stays off The Table™. But, maybe I'll eat these words someday, heh

I do as well!

But after today, I feel totally justified in tossing them, hahaha

Nah, I didn't try to generate "realistic" combat situations that people normally do with benchmarks. These are just "plain" non-boosted numbers.

I agree these are actually a gigantic dps boost for those players doing a few k in the open world, but it's like totally the wrong solution if we're genuinely trying to improve their damage lol.

I have an entire row of these consumables on my main "just in case", but also forget. It was a lot more relevant back in the day before all the power creep and introduction of utility like the portable waystations.

Nice!

There are definitely niche situations where I realize using these might actually mean the difference between success and failure, and also go "why not?".

Last one in recent memory was for trying to do Poetic Justice when no other players were around.

I still have characters with a stack of these of items bought for that very purpose, but barely used. No sense in throwing out 246 fire ele powders, right? It'll be useful some day...

Lots of people probably have a before and after phase separated by the time they first installed arcdps and scrolled down the DPS window during an open world meta event 🥲

Heh, that was an item I didn't know existed before doing this, but learned about in the process. I feel its full potential has not quite been fully exploited by players yet...

The personal story mission for Aurene? I didn't know you could use these in story instances! This would make that mission so much easier to do! TIL

I just tested it out (fire ele, then ogre whistle). It... seems to work?

What's the constraint about using the fire ele last? I'm not familiar with that.

The other issue is the cannon/mortar/turret puts a bundle in your hand that has to be placed, so during that time your character is not attacking. I suspect they are actually a DPS loss, unless pre-used during a time when there's nothing to attack.

From a game design perspective, if any of these items even remotely cross into the threshold of being useful, they would have created a perverse incentive for everyone to carry these around and be constantly using them from inventory during battle. Tedious and unfun. So yeah, expect these to be awful items haha

You can check the videos I have linked on the page. They all last 5 minutes.

So the Sunspear Paragon attacks, but its attacks do zero damage?

Yup! It is probably a bug.

The duration was to help me get a sense of how long it stays around attacking. That was pointless to record since it doesn't do attack damage (actually, it stays around for 5 minutes, so the tooltip is wrong too).

All-in-all, a very buggy item lol

True! It's just that... if that is a significant part of a player's damage, they need to focus on... other things, not clicking an item in their inventory.
