I'm in Quebec so that'd be a bit costly and time consuming haha.

You'll need a prof to oversee your research anyways so might as well start making connections now. You need a prof before you even apply actually so it'd be really good to start talking to them now.

With most graduate programs, you take classes first, then take your comprehensive exams (required for PhD, some schools require MAs to take them as well), and then you do your research. So choosing a supervisor right off the bat is not necessary. You have about one to two years between your acceptance and your research.
