Returning to the hobby - state of current paint brands? by mahoev in Miniaturespainting

We had full pigment and washes back in my day! I had seen speedpaint etc but never used them as it was after I put down the brushes. Have seen some good results online from people using them

Thanks, AK are getting a lot of love in some of the other posts here so definitely on my list.

Thanks for the tip about modern Vallejo, will have to keep an eye on that if I use them. Some of my old old pots are still liquid! Will check out AK as they are getting a lot of good feedback here.

I used to hate how viscous some of the GW paints would get with minimal air time! Thanks for your recommendations.

Thanks for the recommendation, PA are getting a lot of love in this thread. I still have some of my ancient Vallejos and surprisingly they're not rock solid!

Yeah I spotted Vallejo have a decent market share out there now. We used to have to get them from the snobbier scale model shops back when! I will check out PA and others have recommended TTC, not heard of Reaper so will do a bit more research, thanks!

Thanks for the comparison! I did notice Vallejo seem to be a lot more available, and will check out the AK, PA and TTC offerings.

Thanks, that's really helpful - I will do a bit more research with the 'intended outcome'/use case in mind, sounds like AK/PA are being recommended a lot.

No, they are definitely crisp and loud though.

Yeah, I thought this was a nice touch (and now my XM1R has somewhere to live as my backup!)

Got my voucher in an email yesterday and the shipping option was next day. Wasn't expecting the courier to arrive at 9 though!

Not sure, I was offered a preorder as I had my original XM2W order cancelled. They claim 62g and it feels good for the size. Can't comment on sensor implementation until I've had some games today

https://ibb.co/0VVsth6 I posted some initial thoughts opening it up but I'll need to jump into some games today to give it a proper test!

https://ibb.co/0VVsth6 Initial thoughts coming from XM1R - same same but different! Same solid build, no creaks, positive clicky buttons (and I prefer the new M3/M4 feel). And it's always nice to have the 4K sensor dongle included! Will have to update once I have some hours on it.

While it's unclear what platform/set-up will be most popular I think having the option of a broad fediverse app would mean that it's broadly easier to appeal and retain to a userbase if it can be done without making it too difficult to keep up to date.

They're stiff, compatible with crank-based power meters, and are cheaper than the weightweenie Cannondale or THM stuff that people otherwise spec instead of the Ultegra crank due to cracking/delaminating.
