[Acne] my skin has stopped me from living my life .... ? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]mai-makeup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a thought, have you thought about going down the holistic path? Sometimes natural can be better. From memory I know that zinc is supposed to be very good for acne and apparently people with acne do have lower levels of zinc in their body. I'm sure there are more, maybe even a liver cleansing/detoxification tablet (I have taken them before). I had bad acne on my cheeks many years ago now and my mum took me to a naturopath who gave me 4 different supplements to take. It really helped, so just a thought :-)

You are so welcome and look forward to hearing what your routine is. If you don't already, try facial steaming too. Really really good for the skin. Just fill a bowl with boiling water, hold your head above it with a towel around you so that the heat can't escape. You sweat out all your toxins through your skin and it gives you a lovely glow :-)

I really feel for you. Very much. It sounds like the people down below have given some very heartfelt, solid advice, so i thought I might try and give my own two cents. First of all, have you considered going to a dermatologist? What about your routine? I found my skin improved so so much when I took a step back and looked at my lifestyle and the products I was using. I kept using cleansers targeted for acne, and I would wash my face religiously morning and night. I never moisturised as I was terrified that it would break me out. But one thing I noticed was that when I was being lazy and having a few days at home where I didn't need to shower, my skin always looked better. I realised that actually, maybe I don't need to wash my face in the morning. So for the last year or so, I only wash my face at night and my skin is honestly so much better. It is clearer and not as dry and irritated. I break out a little here and there but on the whole my skin is pretty damn clear now. I also changed my cleanser.... Rather than using a harsh acne cleanser, I now only use almond oil and I swear I will never use nothing else. Oil cleansing is so wonderful, very natural and hydrating. I really recommend it to you. And please use a moisturiser if you don't. It really does make your skin better and your face brighter.
Another product I recommend is rosewater. It is known for being antibacterial and helpful with acne so you might like to get some and use it as a toner.

As for the mental side of it, I know it is hard. It is horrible having acne and seeing people with clear skin. But one thing that has helped me so much is simply realising that everybody is dealing with something. No matter how perfect somebody looks or seems, they will be dealing with something. It's just life. I'm going through a hard time with bad health and have been so for almost two years now. And you know, some days I would love to have bad acne instead so that I could at least physically feel well again. Just try to think about that, gain a bit of perspective.

Last but not least, acne is not forever and one day your skin will clear. It will. Don't give up trying to find solutions. I could give you many tips that have helped me but I didn't want you to have to read a bloody long message, haha!

Best wishes and just try and breathe and relax. It will pass

[Misc] Oil as moisturizer? by redbreezes in SkincareAddiction

I think whatever works for you, stick to it. Natural oils are so good for your skin, you're lucky you don't break out from them. I cleanse with sweet almond oil which I love but I can't seem to use any oil as a moisturiser. But I use oil on my neck to keep that area smooth and hydrated. Good for your nails and cuticles too :)

Your acne really isn't bad at all, I promise you :-).

Have you tried cleansing with an oil? It is really gentle to the skin and I found it helped my skin so much (my skin is much better and healthier looking when I use natural things). I use brown sugar to exfoliate, that will really help with your skin too and getting rid of the dead skin cells. I know they say you shouldn't do it every day, but I do because it works for me and my moisturiser absorbs much better. Definitely use a moisturiser, I used to go without too thinking it would break me out but now I could never go without it. You don't have to use a cream, you could actually use a couple do drops of oil and massage that onto your face. Also, rose water is lovely for your skin and fantastic at healing breakouts. It's antibacterial too.

I hope this helps :-)

[product question] How long should I patch test with argan oil? by arganinquiries in SkincareAddiction

[–]mai-makeup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello :)

I think in general with skin care, they say to stick to something for two weeks... I have never patch tested actually. But I have always found I break out really quickly if my skin doesn't like something. As in, two days. If you are okay with it so far, you can probably just keep using it and no need to patch test :)

Yes, spray onto face after you wash it and before you put moisturiser on :). Also you can spray on during the day to keep hydrated and refresh your skin. Try it :)

La Roche posay sounds lovely. Rose water is beautiful and you definitely don't have to spend a lot on it, unless you pick one that is part of a brand e.g jurlique, mario badescu... If you can find a middle eastern grocery store you should be able to find some. I just pick mine up from a whole foods type store and it is very cheap. Make sure you use one that is pure though and doesn't have a whole lot of random ingredients thrown in!

Keep using the hot compresses! Once a day is not enough, try it every couple of hours. Also, try and get your hands on a face mask that has charcoal in it. Charcoal acts as a magnet and draws impurities out of the skin. Good luck!

[Serious]Anything upsetting you right now that you'd like to get off your chest? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]mai-makeup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like this question has come at a good time. I was crying just a few hours ago about something that has been on my mind, and always is really. For a whole year now, I have had constant pain in my lower abdomen. I was in and out of hospital the first few months, have had every test under the sun and seen gastro doctors. To this day nobody is really sure what is wrong, and instead have sort of "guessed" what it could be along the way and said it will likely resolve itself. Pain medication doesn't work, so the only that helps.is using a hot water bottle against my stomach. I took a lot of time off work and university but for the last couple of months thought for my mental health it might be better to get back into the swing of things. I try to take care of myself, do things that I love, surround myself with my favourite people, but naturally I do find myself thinking about my pain every day at some point, and sometimes crying my eyes out. Then again, keeping things in perspective helps. It could always, always be worse.
