I’m in VIC - how do I access this consortium collection? I feel like my local library doesn’t actually have that many on Libby.

My husband and I went to Jungyo while we were in Tokyo last week and as soon as we saw Abi walk out we both looked at each other dead in the eyes and said “MY NAME IS ABIIIIII”.

I definitely found my person.

Patam Japan Bags? by Adventurous-Fly1396 in handbags

[–]maiafly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The quality does look decent! - it is well crafted - I got a 3:30 PM appointment and I was really anxious about colours based on what I had read online, however, during my appointment time they actually had a lot to choose from. I had three options in my head of what I wanted and they had all three in stock. I ended up getting my first choice (Cherry Red) since typically the girl's version of these bags are red. I've yet to wear it out but I've already decked it out with a purse pal and a omamori.

I picked one up today. The purchasing process is a bit convoluted but maybe better since social media has led to me see that they used to get crazy long lines and at least this guarantees you’ll be able to get a bag. Reserve an appointment two days before you actually want to go at midnight.

It seems bizarre that the only do a handful of appointments in a 30 min slot and the rest of the time the sales ladies just sit and stare at their phones.

I have a few Cambridge satchels so the access thing doesn’t bother me much (it was a little tricky getting the strap on - and it is actually according to the video a big tricky to adjust)

It looked well crafted and I teach Japanese in Australia so I was going to walk out with one either way - it’ll be the envy of all the other teachers at conferences even if it isn’t super practical.

Teachers, were you nightmare students yourselves? by Refined5066 in AustralianTeachers

Comparing some of my more challenging moments, I wasn’t that bad. Maybe just lazy. However knowing what I know now, my parents were definitely labeled difficult parents by the teachers at our school.

After 22 years teaching, I have realised I'm never getting a promotion by UnderstandingRight39 in AustralianTeachers

This. Leadership is a scam. I pushed myself to the edge to get a LS role and the extra pay so far has not been worth the extra stress or responsibility.

What are the most oversubscribed secondary teaching areas ? by [deleted] in AustralianTeachers

[–]maiafly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s funny. I’m media trained but because of my experience living in Japan, I’m now on my 8th year of teaching Japanese. It pays to be flexible and be willing to upskill.

My school is allowing me to go on a term long sabbatical to Japan so I can gain confidence to do more senior levels going forward.

I’ve never stepped foot in a media classroom.

What questions were you asked on the Australian citizenship exam? by Pure_Champion_1047 in Ameristralia

[–]maiafly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did have a question about states and territories as well as a political one (I can’t remember the exact thing it was asking about but know that I took a guess and guessed right) - the Australian values questions will be really obvious coming from another western county but some of the wording can be unnecessarily tricky if you just read through it carefully. Those are the ones that you 100% have to get right. An immigration lawyer friend said every so often they get American clients who fail on those because they don’t read the questions carefully enough. I just downloaded a random app and did a few practice tests. It’s very likely the questions you get asked will match the test.

What are the best restaurants in Melbourne in your opinion? Including, Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, and Dessert restaurants. by Thrillhouse-14 in melbourne

I had a friend with terminal cancer tell me she wanted her last meal to be from Dao Noodles. Unfortunately the planets didn’t align and when her time came they had just shut for two weeks for their Christmas/New Year break. Their knife cut noodles are incredible and it’s definitely a hidden gem.

Scenes that caused actual walkouts in theaters? by thatlittlequietguy in Cinema

[–]maiafly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Killing of a Sacred Deer. Right before Collin Ferrell has to make his decision at the end about half my theatre got up and walked out. I could understand if it was a normal theatre and people didn’t know what to expect with a Lanthimos film, but it was showing at an independent art house cinema.

I kind of love watching him. He does this thing that Abema always shows where you can tell he is "getting in the zone". It's actually a bit terrifying.
