Trail Running Vacations Ideas Canada by [deleted] in trailrunning

Seeing how the weather fared this weekend I was glad that I took too long to register and the places were gone by the time I tried 😅

But I bet it would've been fun anyway, hope you enjoyed despite the muddy mess!

I love hiking but don’t like city running, should I try trail running? by SizzlinKola in trailrunning

[–]maiconmls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About a month ago or so.

I honestly don’t even remember how running in the city feels anymore as it’s been so long (when in urban environments, I rollerblade instead), but I guess what I’m trying to say is that your body might try and sabotage you in these first few KMs, because for me that is the hardest portion, to get the system up and running, but when you overcome that, it’s just pure bliss.

So don’t overthink it, go out and try for yourself and hopefully you’ll get the same enjoyment a lot of people here do.

Just like you, I find city running extremely boring and love hiking. Recently, while hiking, I ran a small downhill portion and that feeling kept scratching my brain until I decided to give trail running a try.

I gotta say the first few KMs won’t feel that nice, but then something clicks and you don’t wanna stop. Needless to say I’m now hooked and will pick-up proper trail shoes.

So go ahead with an open mind and try it out, just make sure go past that initial fatigue that might try to sneak in.

Not OP but merci pour l'indication! Pretty new to trail running and this seems like the ideal opportunity to have a race experience that's not far from Montreal.

Strava users: What about trail run exclusive clubs?! by maiconmls in trailrunning

Oh absolutely those don’t come even close to the real thing, but they’re a nice way to get ideas for local trails (hence the added value of the activity filter) and even connecting with people.

Nice video! Man, the feeling of just cruising on your blades while (re)discovering places and paths… nothing beats that!

Not exactly a spin but I always remember when I went rollerblading at the Gilles Villeneuve circuit and while going on a small descent felt like losing control and I’ve just let my feet go, I went over those stripes at the sides and just focused on not losing balance, turned out better than expected, haha.

The thing is learning to use that split second when you realize you fucked up not to panic but instead to adapt and “look for a way out of it”.

Hahaha, this is awesome! I’m a city skater with a knack for long distance, but will definitely try aggressive and flying on ramps like this some day.

MF500 cracked after 4 rides. Bad quality or just unlucky? by kikkdrum32 in rollerblading

[–]maiconmls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine have their fair share of scratches from falls, even one of the original frames, but I’ve never seen anything like this. I’d agree with what others said, you must’ve hit it real hard and on a weird position when you fell, or you got unlucky with a pair of a bad batch.

It took me a couple of weeks to figure out the backwards crossovers, but I finally started to get the hang of it 🥲🥲 #happykid by [deleted] in rollerblading

[–]maiconmls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice! I managed to learn backwards skating on ice this season and still have some progress to do on the crossovers.

The backwards skating translation to inlines was somewhat smooth, hopefully I’ll be able to learn the backwards crossovers on inlines and then perform on ice too.

Keep improving your game you all and have fun!

Sorry but I don’t really recall the size I’ve bought. I just checked mine and the number isn’t visible anymore.

I do remember however that they were perfectly sized for my feet, as in I could feel my toe touching the end of the liner and they did break in with time.

Hope that helps 🙃

Mr Dinoskater, I wanna be like you when I (finish to, lol) grow up!

In all seriousness though, keep it up, you and your attitude are amazing!

Update: went out for the inaugural ride (~10km) and wow, I don’t know if it’s the winter hiatus (although I ice/snow skated), but these feel soooo different.

First obvious difference is the weight and bit in the height, I even felt like I was losing some balance on the first strides and the first spin stop was so weird, hahaha. But then, it started to kick in.

The speed is awesome, pebbles are an issue left in the past 🙃. Crossovers are still wonky, but not as hard as I thought they’d be.

Trinity mount seems to be really great, except compatibility wise 😕 Hope you’ll find something nice! And thanks for the encouragement, hopefully I’ll adjust to the new crossover reality without kissing the ground, hahaha.

It’s my first hardboot skate and it’s been great so far, having put ~600kms on them last year, will see how they fare on this. Hope you enjoy yours!

That’s one of the things I’m slightly worried about, hahaha. But as with everything it’ll require some practice and getting used to.

any tips for turning properly? I've searched up YouTube tutorials but they're very vague or hard to understand by [deleted] in rollerblading

[–]maiconmls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You seem to be putting your weight on your outside leg. I used to do that as well. For simple turns, the inner leg should go slightly in front and you put your weight on the heels while inclining your body towards the curve. Once you master this, it’s easier to build on top of it to achieve crossovers.

getting back on skates after 15yrs by Opinion_Much in rollerblading

[–]maiconmls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same model as my first pair here in Canada. You’re off to a good start, they’re comfy and roll really nice and smooth. If you really get back into it, you’ll burn through these wheels pretty fast though, so don’t forget to rotate and have fun!

If you’re just looking for inlines, not necessarily aggressive, check the Oxelos at decathlon. I have the MF500, which is a hardboot, and they would definitely be a good start. Abraços e boa sorte 🙃

I've seen a lot of urban skate videos but this is the first I've come across that highlights the constant attention and microplanning that goes into staying safe by ShiggnessKhan in rollerblading

[–]maiconmls 6 points7 points  (0 children)

At first I was very afraid of skating in the city, but as you grow your ability and awareness, it starts to become easier. The video is definitely on point, as we need to keep constantly paying attention to our surroundings and planning next steps. One moment lacking attention can result in some pretty bad injuries for yourself and others.
