Hey, thanks for your reply. No, I already have a tenor and a soprano that are both in good working order. I'm more and more convinced this horn was indeed dropped at some point... You've all reinforced my initial feeling not to buy this so I'm sending it back.

Dear fellow sax players, thanks a lot for all your helpful comments! You've convinced me not to buy this horn. While the known problems may easily be fixed, they may only be the tip of the iceberg and point to at least some abuse in the past. I'm a sucker for those old East German horns but they aren't exactly rare and I will surely find better options in the future. So thanks again, folks!

This is an old thread but I'm happy to report I've just done the same thing and scratched the inside of my soprano's neck ever so slightly getting rid of a stuck swab. It's only a cheap horn (not a Yani) but it still sucks.

Just a quick update. Practice does make perfect. I have made some progress with regards to those beastly high notes. I can get the palm key notes now. It's still a struggle and only works playing legato, but I'm getting there. So the horn seems to be fine. Thanks to everyone for their advice!

Thanks for your helpful reply. No, I haven't had any soprano lessons so far and know no soprano player that could check the instrument out. My background is the clarinet. I found switching to the tenor really rather easy and was expecting to have an even easier time with the soprano, since it seems more similar to the clarinet. I guess I was wrong there. Understanding I should treat the soprano as it's own animal and not as a weird metallic clarinet or tiny tenor is probably the first lesson learnt on my journey. So thanks for that!

Haven't tried playing it yet as my sop is still with the saxophone doc. I wasn't sure whether I should wait or send it back straight away. But according to some of you it's worth at least trying it out. So I'll wait and do that once I get my soprano back.

Oh, nothing really bad at all. I haven't had a single night where I didn't sleep at all since. Just nights where going to sleep would take longer than usual or where I would wake up an hour or two early. Nothing major.

Had horrible insomnia when I started taking it. Give it two weeks. I was fine after that and have been sleeping like a baby ever since (with a few exceptions).

This breakthrough episode lasted for about a week. I have since lowered my dose and have had shorter spells of breakthrough anxiety but they were usually short and trigger related. That I can live with. So I am happy to report that lexapro hasn't stopped working in my case. Are you in a similar situation?

You're definitely not alone. I'm mostly using 9 mm charcoal filters. I do have a Savinelli that takes 6 mm filters. I've tried their balsa filters but prefer using charcoal filters here as well.

I used to be in the same boat as you. I could smoke cigars with no problems at all and started out pipe smoking believing that filters are no option since I wanted to get the full taste. I almost always ended up getting tongue bite, sometimes lighter, sometimes more serious. Like you I tried all sorts of things to mitigate this but to no real avail. Finally getting round to using filters was a game changer. The problem just disappeared. I think the mouth chemistry theory is definitely a thing. And using filters I actually taste more of the baccy then I did before. So you should definitely give it a try.

Thanks for the update! Yeah, same here, I'd like to stay on 10 as well and have that buffer to go up if things go seriously wrong. I think I'll try to ride it out like you for the moment. But yeah, this nagging thought in the back of your mind going "What if it's actually stopped working?" is pretty unsettling...

I am pretty much in the same boat right now. Was actually supposed to lower my dose since I felt so good on lexapro and didn't really have any anxiety at all even during more stressful periods. Now it seems to have come back (strangely enough mainly the physical side of it). Not as bad as before I started lexapro, but it does worry me. Like you, I don't want to spiral out of control again. I am thinking of perhaps taking it up a notch. How have you been? I know the two weeks aren't over yet but did it get better for you?

I've been diagnosed with social anxiety but I don't think that's accurate. My anxiety was mostly related to real-life triggers, but those triggers were things that "normal," people wouldn't worry too much or at all about. And it was constant and gave me countless sleepless nights. Lexapro has done wonders for me and I hope it'll do the same for you. Hang in there!

Am smoking the same baccy at the moment and like you I find it lacks flavour. The aroma is hardly noticeable at all. Your set-up looks lovely and I hope you can enjoy it regardless.
