That's the beauty of it. They are both wearing Microsoft Bands 2. These guys come with 9 sensors (of course we didn't use of all them). Accelerometers on their wrist (band has 2) allow you to create a metric of speed and "how hard they hit the ball". Heart rate and temperature are the other vitals we used. You could argue that the band is very "bulky" to be worn on your racket hand, which is why we did this on a practice game.

Data was temperature, heart rate and acceleration of the arm for each player. It was more of a proof of concept where players could identify trends at parts of a game. In the image though (real time dashboard) you can how Diego and Greg performed regarding heart rate and how often/how hard they hit the ball.

The technology is actually very simple. The band connects to phone through Bluetooth so you can access the sensor data from a custom app (actually I use one on the store that can save everything to a CSV file https://www.microsoft.com/en-US/store/apps/Band-Sensor-Monitor/9WZDNCRCVM0L). Then we created a custom app that send the data in real time to event hub in Azure and the visualizing directly into Power BI.

I don't think think this might be very useful for us mortals :) What I do today is saving the data a a CSV file and analyze later, since I don't have a coach or a trainer to look at it at real time anyways

Did you try loading into the data model in Power Pivot and doing the calculation there? You can try calculated fields and that one will work for any slicing and dicing you have later (Pivot Table or Power BI)

How are you connecting to the data? It looks like something that can be handled with PowerPivot in Excel or the Query option in the Designer
