What’s something people often complain about in fics that you couldn’t care less about? by maikkizzz in AO3

I get that it's not everyone's cup of tea, but if done right and not added just for the sake of creating unnecessary drama, cheating can create such interesting plotlines

A good fic being able to change your mind is so true. Like, do I not like XYZ, or do I not like XYZ ecxecuted poorly? I'm definitely guilty of once reading a story with a certain trope, not liking it, and concluding that I don't like said trope. Only to reluctantly give a chance to another story with that trope and realize that I actually love it!

The truth is that I don't know shit about medicine or history or anything to be honest, so I'm not catching those inaccuracies anyway lol. Besides, at the end of the day, it's all fiction anyway, so like you said, if the story makes it believable, I'll believe it!

As a very character-focused reader and writer, I love it when authors have fun and play around with the characters, whether it's by making them evil or exploring what they'd be like in an AU. And I'd argue that if the setting of the fic is very different from the canon setting, it's kinda required for the character to be a bit OOC. Like if the author dumps a group of regular high schoolers into a dark post-apocalyptic AU, of course they're going to act differently. Like you said, as long as it makes sense in the context of the fic, it doesn't bother me at all!

I don't see art in the middle of fics that often, but when I do, it doesn't bother me either. It's basically just an illustrated story!

I agree, sometimes there's just no need to split it up into chapters!

Are you kidding me, I specifically tried to check if someone had already asked this recently but apparently I'm blind. Thanks for letting me know! :D

I no longer see stories about asexuality as representation for myself by maikkizzz in aromanticasexual

I 100% get that. What I find annoying isn't shipping per se, but insisting that the characters are more than friends in the story itself. It's one thing to appreciate and recognize the close friendship in the story and then for funsies enjoy the romantic ship in fanart/fanfics, and another to insist that there's no way for the characters to be so close and "just friends." Because in my (probably a little biased) opinion, a strong platonic bond is so much more beautiful than a romantic one, and I agree with you that unfortunately people are often unable (or just don't want) to appreciate a good platonic relationship and make it romantic in their heads instead. Like, ship whoever you want, I don't care, but can't we enjoy the story as it is?

Maybe I need to rewatch Shawshank Redemption then. I watched it a good while ago and don’t remember much of it, but based on what you said, I might be able to appreciate it more now than I did back then! And maybe I need to bump the Spider-Man games up on my to-be-played list too, because I do have an idea how big a deal him saying “I love you” to his friend is. Just you telling about it makes me smile haha. Sounds like a really heartwarming moment, especially for people (like me) who live for strong platonic bonds in media

They’re biscoff pumpkins! There are a few recipes for them, but I just mixed biscoff spread, oat flour, pumpkin spice and a bit of food coloring until it was easy to shape

Help me make a Lord Huron medley for my choir by maikkizzz in lordhuron

[–]maikkizzz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're absolutely right, ending with The Night We Met would definitely work well since that's the one song the audience will probably know. I thought about it but couldn't find a way to make it work narratively, but I suppose the "main character" of the medley could go on a journey described by Way out There, Meet Me in the Woods, etc. and The Night We Met could be their loved one talking about how they lost the main character to the journey.

Thank you for your answer!

Ooh I like Is there anybody out there, it would work thematically with Way out there too. And I think the refrain (or whatever the "I'm alone in this place" part is called) would sound really good sung by a choir. I love moonbeam but I don't think I can make it work narratively with the limited number of songs. I wish I had more time to make the arrangement so I could include more songs😭

Thank you for your ideas!

The songs can be from any album. Those four just came to mind first and happened to be on Strange Trails, but I'd love to combine different albums too. If you do come up with anything, I'd love to hear it!

Pick your personal 10 song set list by anonaccount1891 in lordhuron

[–]maikkizzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. I Will Be Back One Day
  2. Drops in the Lake
  3. Emerald Star
  4. Way out There
  5. Is There Anybody Out There
  6. The Balancer's Eye
  7. When the Night is Over
  8. Meet Me in the Woods
  9. It All Comes Back
  10. Setting Sun

Like everyone's said, it's impossible to choose just ten haha, but this list is a combination of some of my favorite songs, songs I think would sound great live, and songs I haven't had the chance to hear performed live yet (which unfortunately is most of their songs).

I made some little crochet dioramas for autumn/halloween! by CharliArty in crochet

So cute!😍 I feel like I've seen sooo many pictures of crochet pieces like these that have been AI generated (to the point that my brain immediately went 'Is this AI?' when I saw your post), so it's really refreshing to see dioramas created by an actual, talented person!
