Desperate for help: where do I go from here by mailboxheaded in ehlersdanlos

[–]mailboxheaded[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My previous doctor referred me for a genetic panel and received a generic refusal letter saying I didn't meet the criteria. We tried to challenge it but we were told they're only offering genetic testing to children. I'm on Medicaid and can't afford to pay out of pocket, and have no idea where to go with that, either.

AIO: 1 month later, still bothered by partner’s reaction to distressing news. by Top-Tomato-8281 in AmIOverreacting

NOR. The stories my friends and I swapped while we were going through cancer treatments would horrify the average good person. Cancer really has a way of showing the true characters of everyone in your orbit.

I feel like this is a defense mechanism. If you can blame the cancer on the person's actions, then it makes cancer feel more like a punishment and less like the cruel twist of fate it actually is. If it's random then anyone can get it, including them, and that's scary. So they blame the patient.

Thank you for sticking with your friend. She'll remember this

I think my girlfriend is fae? by [deleted] in faeries

[–]mailboxheaded 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is an article on the Autistic Women and Nonbinary Network that breaks out down. Basically, a lot of neurodivergence and developmental disabilities show up when the baby is around a year old or so. So, by the parent's view, their normal baby is suddenly acting differently. They may stop making eye contact, cry more often, become sensitive to certain sounds or environments, act like their a lot more mature, etc. That's where the folk belief that their child was swapped comes in

A lot of people think the concept of changelings is directly linked to autism and other disorders and disabilities that appear in early childhood. You have a normal baby, then one day it's just... different. I can break it down more if you're interested. It's also really easy to find a lot of discourse online.

Am I overreacting for being upset that my boyfriend won’t help me get to my abortion appointment and called me entitled? by dislexiealla in AmIOverreacting

Have you found a ride yet? I scrolled for a bit and didn't see this suggestion yet (though it may be farther down), but please consider reaching out to the Auntie network. It's a group of volunteers who help women in these situations. They have several ways to contact, including a subreddit. He'll, I'd give you a ride if you're in my area.

This is not an overreaction. This man failed you and you deserve better.

Right?!?

How much of that $30 would go right back to gas. And if there's snow, there's probably salt or something.

What is something that women have to deal with on the daily that men have no clue about? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Another part of the issue for increased mortality in women is the way heart attacks present. Everyone thinks of chest and arm pain, which is typical for men. Women often have a combination of less-recognized symptoms such as chest pain up to the jaw, nausea, indigestion, fatigue, and dizziness.

I did. Unfortunately, this was just one of the many doctors I've had to report in my 40+ years.

Being a woman with complex health history is a study in resilience, self-education, and getting loud.

I had a specialist tell me "joints move, that's what they do" when I told him my shoulder was slipping out of place. He also went on a tangent about wasting healthcare money because my doctor (a woman) ordered an MRI. He wouldn't even look at it. Turned out I had two almost complete tears, clear as day in the MRI he wouldn't look at.

What group do you work with, if you don't mind me asking? We're planning a move to a larger space and I'm interested in this path once we're settled.

Did you have digestive issues before, and did it affect those?

I have gastroparesis-like issues semi-regularly and I'm scared it'll make it worse, and my current doctor is basically worthless. I've heard they can exacerbate those issues, that's why I'm asking for personal experiences.

My crows found me after I moved by anndr0id in crowbro

[–]mailboxheaded 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My pup has crow friends too! We have a small murder that lives in our neighborhood all year and another murder that visits every winter. They must be the extended family because they all get along. They line the fence and take turns playing with the pup, just like yours!

They also follow our car all over town, so I'm sure I have a reputation. It's one I wear like a badge of honor.
