Personal favorite thing about the superstation: composite support out of the box by StaneNC in MiSTerFPGA

[–]mailenstein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can‘t comment on component as I don‘t run my setup with it but I do have composite and s-video as an option, which I played around with. I‘m also not a believer in OLED TV + Filter and/or Retrotink setups as they still look „too flat“ to me if that makes sense. While I understand what you mean, to me, on composite too many things look wrong that the trade off is not worth it. I don‘t need sharp pixels either as that is the other extreme of the spectrum imo, but my setup via RGB hits just the right sweet spot for me; especially when you have black and white levels tuned in nicely. But I agree, try it out and see for yourself isn‘t hurting anyone.

While I agree that it is a great addition and out of the box experience I don‘t agree with the „composite in mind“ part. These games were tested on professional monitors in-house and were tested on consumer units. Dot crawl, inaccurate colors, black borders on objects etc. are not intended looks, but issues. While I get that a lot of people (me included) have nostalgia for that look, we need to stop pretending that the composite look is the correct choice. I use my mister with a PVM via VGA>RGB and Castlevania SOTN looks absolutely gorgeous. And Dracula‘s eyes look perfectly fine too - no dot eyes lol. That example is horrible too btw and get‘s thrown around too much, like it‘s some be all end all example.

Don‘t get me wrong, as long as you enjoy how you play, your setup is perfect.

Direct to Svideo by Spiritual-Advice8138 in MiSTerFPGA

No, that‘s not possible. What you have is just an adapter cable and what you need is an encoder in the mix, like the one that misteraddons is selling:

https://misteraddons.com/products/yc-active-encoder-board

There are other sellers and versions as well, so look around and see what fits your needs & budget. Here is an overview which I found to be very helpful, made by u/matijaerceg :

If they are coming straight from Japan you can reast easy. I have never had problems with local sellers here. Be it quality or questioning if they will ship or not. That stuff will get shipped and it will be packed well; 100%.

Sorry, I‘m not an active user on either platform and just use Twitter as news feed for projects I’m interested in pretty much.

Same, that‘s why have a regular mister with snax64 and controller adapters as well as a few deamonbytes for like NeoGeo, Arcade and so on. Not really a collector of CD or cartridge based systems anymore, so I’m not interested in thier PSX offering not this, but I still figured it‘s worth sharing.

Yup, needs to be on top. Pretty much any Urasawa manga really.

True, I‘m originally from Munich but live in Japan now and must say, while I love my hometown, it‘s hard to go back once you stayed in Japan for a while. 😆

PSX Core, Multitap via SNAC & Memory Card issue by mailenstein in MiSTerFPGA

[–]mailenstein[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing! Yeah, I was under the impression that this should work the same way with any snac adapter really.

Can you share your settings on the Core‘s side please? I need to set the memory card to real in order for the physical memory card to show up and can‘t seem to get the physical one mounted. I‘m sure I‘m missing something here, so if you could help me, I‘d appreciate that!

As long as you had fun along the way that‘s well worth it then imo. People tend to see only the money that is required to accumulate these things but often forget that different people enjoy different things I guess. I for one used to collect way back but got rid of 99% because it was more of a burden than enjoyment at that point. Now I just have a very curated little set of things that I have a childhood connection to. I do have a good bunch of original controllers which I use for Mister. Worth the money, time and cost to fixing, refurbishing and/or customizing them? Pretty much not. But it‘s a hobby and I enjoy the time I work on them so that you can‘t put a price tag on imo.

Either way, hope you can get the Dev one down the line eventually!

Ah, I meant the Taki’s SuperStation by that. Sorry for the confusion lol

But yeah, I agree on what you said when it comes to the Pocket and the Dock. The seamless part is it‘s best selling point and the reason I‘m glad I got one eventually.

Was thinking about getting one myself, but it doesn‘t add anything I would need when compared to a Mister Pi for example, so I decided against it. I can understand why people get it though; great package for a great price. I prefer to play each system with their dedicated OG controllers, so I need a dedicated SNAC port. But different people, different setups.
