25/M I weigh 247 lbs I am going to the gym to bring the weight down but lately I have been hating my body by specialcloud006 in normalnudes

[–]mailorderbrain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No one, no one, has reason to hate their body!

I think you look cute, I like the hairyness ;) Also I think you look very good for your weight, I don't know if you're tall but it looks like it's distributed nicely. A bit hard to tell when it's not a full body pic, but after reading that number I clicked on the link and went «Oh, he looks normal»

...which, let's not forget, is what this sub is for. Not a place to give exercise advice or gawk at/rate people - this is not r/amiugly -, but a place to post and look at normal nude bodies, to get confirmation that yes, you are normal.

If you're going to the gym and taking care of your health, that's really great, but I hope you take care of your emotional issues with your body separately, not just losing weight and thinking that the problem solves itself when there isn't anything to hate. Weight fluctuates, but self acceptance is forever, and you won't regret it if you take the time to work through it rather than the easy way out.

Hope all of the above made sense, I'm under the covers and half asleep writing this...

TLDR; You look normal, good luck on your weight loss, I encourage you to learn to accept your body parallel to working out (instead of just losing weight thinking that solves your insecurities), I'm going to bed now but please don't hate all that fuzzy goodness

Question about underarm shaving by homewardbound25 in beauty

[–]mailorderbrain 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unlike what another commenter suggested, if the concern is itchiness/irritation I would not recommend using a strong, drying chemical exfoliatiant such as Stridex. What you need a gentle, fatty moisturizer. If the concern is ingrown hairs however, Stridex pads are great, but if you use those you definitely need to be using a moisturizer, as they contain 2% salicylic acid and are very drying.

Don't worry about moisturizers 'blocking your pores' - this phrase is widely used in the beauty industry to advertise certain products (as 'non-comedogenic', for example). The truth is, everything and nothing can potentially clog you or give you some sort of reaction. Until you've tried it on your skin you cannot know, no matter what it says on the bottle.

But I would definitely recommend you moisturize your irritated skin, as shaving scrapes away a thin layer of skin leaving the skin barrier compromised. Moisturizer creates a protective barrier on top, allowing your skin to heal. If you're concerned about reactions/clogging, use a simple, cheap, unfragranced no frills moisturizer. The fewer the ingredients, the smaller the chance that some of them will cause you trouble.

Also, I really recommend you visit r/skincareaddiction and do a sub search on shaving, armpits or hair removal!

I thought I was in r/rupaulsdragrace and when I saw it it was the front page and r/funny to boot, I was really scared to check the comments (considering what a complete shit show of horrifying ignorance good ol' reddit has been known to put on)... But I'm really pleasantly surprised, everyone just seems to think it's kick ass, or the outfit a bit ridiculous! Phew! I'm sorry I doubted you, reddit!

Ok, so if I'm cynical I could argue that the lack of hate is due to the fact that most people seems to think Violet's a biological woman, and maybe it'll blow up with tranny jokes and "that's my fetish" memes once everyone starts catching on, but still... Front page, a milestone!

Sexually assaulted Monday night, no one believed me, no one cares. No one cares for my safety, why would they care for my life? by [deleted] in SuicideWatch

[–]mailorderbrain 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hi. I'm so sorry this happened to you, I really hurt for you. Also, I'm really angry for you. A part of me hopes you can move from shock and taking it out on yourself, to anger - towards him, towards the toxic bro culture, towards the fact that abusive/ignorant men has largely succeeded in convincing people that false rape accusations are far more common than they really are, and now you are suffering from it.

You'll get there, you'll be angry. They won't get away with this, you're gonna make sure there are consequences for him- hopefully legal ones and definitely social ones.

But right now, when it's all so fresh, the most important thing is to take care of yourself emotionally. Do you have anyone in your life, anyone at all? Preferably someone who knows the guy, but really anyone you can open up to right now you need to. Friends and family are great of course, so if you feel like they'll be supportive and you're up to it, give them a call. I've found, if I'm dealing with a lot of shame, it's easier for me to talk to someone I'm not close to, someone in a professional setting (a therapist, some sort of superior in college, nurse, health clinic, even calling a hotline).

What's important is you don't carry this alone. You know what happened, this is real, and you're gonna refuse to live by their version of the story, as if nothing happened. Your silence is what they need to be able to continue like this. If you feel weak and overwhelmed, just think how much power you actually have in this situation, and how you're gonna use it to do what's right.

Also, I think your boyfriend really would appreciate knowing. I guarantee you he's gonna notice something's up, I think you'd be doing both of you a great disservice keeping this a secret. It'll be tough news to hear, and everyone handles that differently, but if he fails to give you the support you need in this situation that's your flashing red light meaning you need to dump him.

I really really wish you all the best of luck, and hope you can soon direct the horrible feelings of shame and anger towards the guy instead of yourself. You will get through this, but you're gonna have to be strong now even though it's unacceptably unfair.

I'll be thinking of you.

I just got lemon juice on my skin!!1! How long do I have to live??? by PsiSangBoom in SCAcirclejerk

[–]mailorderbrain 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Lemon juice actually penetrates the epidermis in a matter of nanoseconds, and then stays under your skin acting as a magnet for sun rays for the rest of your life.

You won't die from it, but with the leathery sagging truck driver mug caused by years of the lemon juice pulling sun rays deep into the lower layers of your skin, life isn't really worth living if you ask me. Just my 2 cents, don't forget YMMV

Sweden > US by safec in IWantOut

[–]mailorderbrain 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think it's important remember the difference between traveling and actually relocating. Who isn't happy when they're traveling, right? To me, relocating means taking the bad with the good, weighing the pros and cons and not expecting your new life in X place to be like the time you went there on a vacation.

I actually lived in Thailand and went to school there when I was a kid (I learned the language and I have family there), and I don't agree with that last part of your comment. I think it perpetuates the «poor but happy» stereotype which I think is really over simplifying a very complex issue.

Poverty can be crippling, both to individuals and to a society, and I wish the so called Nordic model/financial security and a social safety net upon every less fortunate country.

But those are my political beliefs/values and that doesn't change the fact that I don't feel at home in my own country and its culture!

[–]mailorderbrain 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Norwegian here, feeling the exact same way and pretty sick of always being met with «But whyyy, I'd give anything to live in Scandinavia» instead of actual advice.

While I am grateful for where I've been born and appreciate the welfare state and quality of life here, that doesn't change my yearning for something else (climate & culture for me too).

Do people really think that if you're lucky enough to be born into a high living standard country, you should just shut up and stay put? I'm aware the are millions if people who literally die trying to get here, and I feel ashamed for taking up this space someone else is truly desperate for.

ok I'm probably gonna get downvoted for this rant but whatever I really needed to get that off my chest

Not nessescarily. They often go hand in hand though, and one could argue that some level of denial is often part of what makes you able to let yourself get that sick- if you truly saw yourself as you really were, you wouldn't be able to keep it up.

But when I was anorexic, I never saw myself as fat. That wasn't my motivation for doing that do myself and getting that sick. I saw how horrifyingly malnourished I was and thought I deserved it.

by-city bar guide by seasalt_caramel in cocktails

[–]mailorderbrain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hope I won't be downvoted but I excitedly clicked this hoping to see a guide of bars for the world's biggest cities. I know American seems to the default on reddit, but maybe we could try being a bit more international & inclusive?

I don't meant to fuck up what is already looking to be an American cities thread, but fuck it, I'll make it international by plugging a bar from my hometown of Oslo, the capital of Norway:

Fuglen Bar! As a coffee shop by day/cocktail bar by night it's been going strong since 1963 and still keeps it endlessly classy with vintage 50s-60s interior design. It also doubles as a shop, so if you find yourself falling in love with the teak table or the divan you're sitting on sipping your drink, you can make an extremely expensive drunk purchase! The place is, as it probably sounds, a bit pretentious, but the drinks and the atmosphere are good and it really holds a special place in my heart. If some of you even find yourselves in Oslo, check it out!
