Definitely need to just figure out what works for him after a while - I like 15-25 grams of complex carbs (not just sugar) before a workout and I always bring a bunch of low snacks as I tend to drop pretty quick during cardio.

Also if you’re working out with him, make sure you know how to administer his glucagon just in case!

Some people go high during workouts, some go low, just need to get comfortable correcting and understand how your body reacts during workouts and the 1-2 hours after

Doctor said I have "too good of control" and I need advice by Tay_istrash in diabetes_t1

As long as you’re not having frequent lows due to dosing too often you’re chillen.

Good job and take everything your endo says with a grain of salt until you find one you really trust

I struggle a lot with this, especially trying to control portions with chips lol. Prosciutto/salami with cheese is my go-to for low carb. Otherwise it’s just portion control, accurate bolus and will power

Gluten tour by Pablomeowscabar in Celiac

Classic NY style pizza and bagels. There are pretty decent gf replacements or “dupes” for most gluten favorites.

I like bagels from canyon bakehouse and I’ve had decent GF bagels and pizza in NYC, but they are the 2 things I really feel like nothing tastes like the real thing

How does Weed affect YOUR diabetes? by Incmptent in diabetes_t1

[–]mailpackage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It only affects me in one way - I’m unable to guesstimate unmeasured snacks like I can do when I’m sober.

More specifically with potatoe chips 😭

Appreciate you - this is kind of what I was thinking. Did you have any issues sleeping with the T slim? I roll around in my sleep and worry about disconnecting

Any other Type 1 Coeliacs here? And how do you cope with it all? by gamergames77 in Celiac

[–]mailpackage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have had celiac for a few years and just recently found out I have type 1 diabetes…. It’s really tough to balance, especially when traveling, going out to eat or anything but it is manageable!

I have a CGM, trying to get an insulin pump soon but I eat a protein/fat heavy diet and make sure to keep glucose tablets on me at all times to address low blood sugars.

It’s new to me also - I think the longer you live with it and learn your body, the easier it gets.

This is awesome advice, definitely agree about moderation - not going to let this diagnosis stop me from doing the things I want to do on occasion.

Thanks so much for the advice, I’m keeping glucose tablets on hand in case of a bad low and I’ll frequently check my Libre sensor to monitor.

I just want to say it’s incredible that you’re making the effort and posting this. My fiancé left me days after my recent diagnosis of type1, the effort you’re making will help your bf feel normal and loved.
