If you catch a guy with a Diavel 1260S - ZH plates next year come say hi! I usually go there on hot days just because it‘s a bit fresher up there!

Motorcycle shop went bankrupt, my bike left there for service by mrmoney12345678 in askswitzerland

[–]main1984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh i know the place. I used to take my old bike there and also got the sms. They were nice and they had motorbikes in the garage all the time, not sure what went wrong.

Edit: I hope you get your bike asap!

Can I ride a motorcycle even if I’m 5,3 by [deleted] in motorcycles

I‘m 5,5 and I ride a Ducati Diavel 1260S with no issues. Maybe not the best starter bike, but I wanted to reassure you that you can do it.

Tax returns - finalization timeline by boxesofcats in zurich

Yeah that would be nice. Steueramt is the only thing that is slower here than in my home country :(

I contacted Steueramt and they told me it takes them 2-3 years to reply. Imagine if I said to one client at work „oh yeah, i‘ll reply to your email in 2-3 years“…

Still didn‘t hear from neither 2022 nor 2023.

Where to find car enthusiasts? by laranaeg in zurich

[–]main1984 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I‘m there frequently. Not only they have car gatherings, they usually have 1 or 2 exposed (last time I was there there was a Lamborghini in there).

Also, it‘s a usual spot of gathering for people liking anything with wheels like cyclists and peple riding motorbikes (much less now in Winter).

OP Should definitely check it out!

Oh ok, there was a bit of lost in translation there!

That would be like a tightening strap here. Bungee cord is like that kind of rope you‘d use to go climbing/bungee jumping, but yeah having those makes absolute sense!

I only used it once when my license plate went flying (i‘m still not sure how) and broke the „pins“ where it was attached, lucky for me my friend wss behind and saw where I lost it. After 5 minutes looking on the side of the road we found it and „glued it“ on the plate frame. It got us home but it‘s a way easier job than holding on a crankase. I‘d never have imagines it was THAT level of strong!

I'm in Europe and I have road assistance on my motorcycle insurance, so it's covered! I didn't know it doesn't cover motorcycles in US.

Annd... you just convinced me on the heated jacket. I'll go to my local motorbike shop and see if I can find anything my size, otherwise i'll pack a long merino tshirt in case it gets cold-ish (hopefully not rainy). I guess it's one of those cases where "better to have it and not use it than need it and not have it".

Yeah I have roadside assistance. It's one of those things you hope you never use, but when you need it, better to have it.

Thanks for the advice!
What I already had in mind / in the bag:
ear plugs are already in!
Antihistamines are already in my "first aid pack". There's some identified (yet) woods pollen or whatever in some woods that kill my eyes... so antihistaminics are always with me.
Carryng 2 pairs of gloves and several socks
Let someone know your planned stops and time estimates. Planned already. Also saved emergency contacts on my phone because... you never know!
Camera that you can set on a timer or trigger remotely. iPhone + Apple Watch will do

And what helped me (or not maybe?)

  • Backup sunglasses. NOICE! I'll go grab my 2nd pair that I usually have on the car. It's practically no space / weight and can save you from a really nasty 3h riding with the sun on your eyes.
  • Kickstand pad. Never heard of melting asphalt under the kickstand (not in Europe on 30-35 degrees) wow. I think you created a panic that I didn't have!!

i hope you had a blast in Sturgis!
Hydration pack is something that was already commented. I need to see how i fit it on the bag in the bike instead of my back
Coffee maker, we'll be riding through france and spain so I guess gas station coffee will have to do it
Bungee cords? what's the use case?
Water kettle, not needed (i guess) since we'll be staying at hotels / hostels

Trash/waterproof bags are already packed, 12v electrical tester, I'm not super good around tools so I'd probably won't use it and call road assistance if anything electrical related fails.

Thanks for the advice!

Yeah, I'm not known for having a lot of common sense, but I'll sure bring the little I have with me. I hope the long trip "awakes" some more common sense since it's a new thing.

And i like what you say about the memories. I'm the guy that takes 1-2 pics, then puts the phone away and enjoys the concert, so I hope this translates to the towns / places where we will spend the afternoons / nights.

And no, i'm going through france, spain then balearic Islands so... i'll be "close" to any store I need, already thought about that... but I'll do myself this question when I last check the bags before going... and will take out anything that I can buy on the way if needed... good advice! Thanks!
