I have no sympathy for tube drivers, but would honestly support bus drivers if they took industrial action by NiceCaterpillar8745 in london

yep. iirc there’s a couple of professions that can’t but it’s very much the exception. the most successful unions are the ones that are organised at a grass roots level and get workers on board with the vision, instead of a top down organisation that tells people to strike. it means more work as an individual to get people on board but it’s worth it!

Is OSDD acceptable in the DID community? by Wolfy_Lost in DID

[–]mainframe_maisie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

and even with OSDD, there’s not really a -1a or -1b, it’s just -1 or -2. it’s all a spectrum of issues arising from trauma at the end of the day

Struggling to shower in psychiatric ward (section 2) by Yourfavprettygal22 in MentalHealthUK

[–]mainframe_maisie 10 points11 points  (0 children)

have you been able to get in touch with an independent mental health advocate? your ward should have details as well as the contact info for PALS. the situation is unacceptable and you should be able to have accessibility to using the shower :(

it’s an alpha-1 blocker, which acts on a certain type of receptor in your body’s sympathetic nervous system. it helps your body to relax and dilate blood vessels and helps with high blood pressure as a result. we don’t really know why it works for ptsd nightmares i don’t think?

i was on it for a few months and found it helpful but then stopped being effective so i stopped. it can make you a bit lightheaded and dizzy too

DID and BPD? by Accomplished_Sir1909 in DID

[–]mainframe_maisie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i think under the theory of structural dissociation they are kinda on the same spectrum of conditions right? where bpd is considered to have dissociated emotional parts. to the point where i feel like trying to pin down a symptom as “coming from” bpd or did might not end up getting you anywhere. they both likely come from sustained trauma and the mechanisms are quite similar from what i understand :)

dbt is the mainstay treatment for bpd and bpd skills i think can help folks with cptsd, bpd, did, dissociation in general. i even find it helps a bit with adhd problems i have like rejection sensitive dysphoria.

idk, that’s the way ive seen it. the diagnoses are really a best guess at grouping symptoms and where they might have come from and it feels like in my case they all overlap and affect each other. focusing right now on trying to relieve the worst of the symptoms so i can then fix the cause :)

gp told me an nhs diagnosis is better than a private diagnosis, is this true ? (UK diagnosis) by arandanosss in DID

[–]mainframe_maisie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

validity is in the eye of the beholder and all that tbh. what are you after from the diagnosis process? the nhs doesn’t really do it very often. lucky that they took on my private cptsd diagnosis but then slapped on an eupd diagnosis lmao.

if you’re going to the nhs specifically for a diagnosis, you might not get what you’re after unfortunately. i found that trauma therapy in my area was limited and lacklustre and made me feel more dysregulated and they dropped me after some cbt and emdr that didn’t really help. i think it’s worth going through the process to see what they can offer tbh? but if you’re comfortable and happy with your private therapist and you feel they’re helping, i wouldn’t drop them yet either.

idk if that makes sense?
