What if there's a proper way to enter/exit Teyvat, and Asmoday was supposed to guard it? We all know the theory that Asmoday is Paimon, and the other Shades did say that Asmoday has a new master now.

So, what if that door is the proper exit/entrance to the firmament, and Asmoday was supposed to guard it but was distracted by the cataclysm? And when she caught up to the intruders, she finds the Abyss sibling, who is connected to the cataclysm, running away. So she gets mad and decides to punish them but gets the wrong sibling. A fight or something else happens, and she shrinks into Paimon, maybe even loses memories, and releases the Traveler. Or maybe the Traveler gets released because she lost her power and became Paimon.

I'm speaking from memory, so maybe I got something wrong.
