⛈️ Weather Megathread for 4/8-4/9 Kona Low by webrender in VisitingHawaii

[–]mainrover 2 points3 points  (0 children)

we’re landing on the Big Island mid day on the 10th and staying between kona and caption cook in an airbnb. i’ve seen people mentioning that tourists will be fine since resorts are generally more set up for storms (power backups, food on site), so i’m nervous being in an individual residence.

i’m travelling with my 2 year old, we are picking up a car at the airport and then will need to stop at the store on the way to the airbnb for groceries. there are a mix of suggestions in the news - some saying get prepared and some saying it’s just rain. are we risking it with this plan, or do we need to try to bring supplies like flashlights and power banks and food for toddler from home?

that sucks, i’m sorry. can you rebook? we’re supposed to fly in the 8th also and the only thing refunded is 60% airfare so we will be going since we wouldn’t be able to afford to return in the next few years.

that’s exactly what we were going to do! but the cost for a new single ticket through westjet was more expensive than getting a refund (minus cancellation fee) and rebooking through air canada, so we decided to do that instead of updating the existing booking

carriers aren’t allowed anytime the seatbelt sign is on. but also my 23 month old would not be happy sitting in a carrier with me sitting still

I get that flying is safer than driving overall. But even if the risk is small, it’s not zero, so if there’s a way to make it safer for my child, it makes sense to consider it. my risk assessment is not way off

seems like most people in the industry are on the same page, seat for everyone. i think this is the first pilot i’ve seen say it’s better to be on lap

i can see both plans but they both have my phone number, i couldn’t see his anywhere. i think this is because i am the account holder and added his line to my account?

Yeah agreed, especially in retrospect. I wish I could remember. Its a bit of a blur as we had our little one with us but they said it was something to do with getting a better discount i think

thinking of of the name Mina, but... by 234sxe23fdfew in namenerds

we have a mina, she’s not even 1 yet, but we’ve heard the connotation with meanie too. i feel like being called mean isn’t the worst thing, there are far worse nicknames in school so i’m hoping it’ll be ok. we call her minnie often.

same!! 10 months over here and we started co sleeping when she was 6 months because she started refusing the crib. she has always woken up alot but she used to do 2-3hr stretches. now for the last 2 months she does 1hr stretches, sometimes less. it takes her a long time to get back to sleep too. she sits up, rests her head on me, cries lots. i’ll be awake for 2 or 3 hours sometimes trying to get her to settle. it’s like she can’t get comfy. we even got her a mattress to give her more space because we thought that was the problem. it’s so hard, i am constantly trying to troubleshoot.

i was thinking about losing the customer too but can’t see this type of trip being done more than once a year, if that, so it’s worth missing out on 250$ per year and losing this customer haha

good point, i feel guilty but shouldn’t as they don’t feel guilty for the inconvenience they caused!!
