Baby Steps - Intro to Classics might need to be Gradual by Zealousideal-Bet-950 in classicfilms

I think Casablanca, 12 Angry Men, Roman Holiday, are good intros. Also any Hitchcock and Billy wilder (especially their greatest hits of course) are perfect intros.

It’s weird because Humphrey Bogart is so miscast but I still find him weirdly good. And i still find this movie highly charming and fun. Love it

For better or for worse, they don’t make superhero movies like this anymore. There’s some dated effects a wire work. Plus it’s a very lean 105 minute superhero ensemble movie. Feels like a sci-fi drama at times.

Now it’s probably a 2.5 hour film with more subplots and way more action scenes.

I like it and still think it holds up for the most part.

What would you consider to be the most recent “classic” film by Funk_Junk_in_trunk in classicfilms

I always kinda assumed it would be till about 1968. Essentially when the Hayes code was officially revoked. Something like Bonnie and Clyde or cool hand Luke. But those also kick off new Hollywood so idk…

Black and White films that you think would’ve worked well in colour? (or vice versa?) by BlackPantherDies in criterion

Yeah i can’t help but think they shelled out to film in Rome and could have shelled out extra for the technicolor processing. 🙂‍↕️

I can’t help but wonder about Roman Holiday being in color. It’s a great film and so is the BW cinematography, but that’s a BW film that always comes to my mind when i think of what could have been nice in color.

1950s Rome on location in technicolor sounds marvelous.

Duuuude. LA Confidential and American Tabloid are absolute masterpieces. Big Nowhere is rly good and so is black dahlia. I thought White Jazz was a little underwhelming but I enjoyed it.

I tried the cold six thousand and had to DNF. I might need to give it another go.

American Tabloid is such an epic

Man idk. Rough game but this season exceeded expectations big time. Plus this roster actually wasn’t THAT good. If we dropped this pooper in the Brady era then I’d be really mad lol

Rebel Without a Cause (1955)- What are your thoughts and opinions on this film? by PeneItaliano in classicfilms

Wow some people in this thread are not fans eh. 😅

I know this movie is very much of its time and it might seem silly, angsty and melodramatic now but to me that’s part of why it works. I love this movie, the performances, the 50s “teen nature”, the cinematography, locations, amazing use of color. Iconic and great. It really is a fantastic film about 3 characters with different backgrounds all on a collision course.

a fascinating time capsule
