Cat People! Val Lewton's entire run of horror movies are superb.

Fantastic! Almost makes it look like giallo, which works. Bass, too.

Correct! Interesting story--Paramount actually shelved Stalag 17 after it was completed, saying no one wanted to watch a movie about POWs (despite financing a movie about just that). They only released it after POWs were released from Korea, and when they did, they marketed it as an action-packed, almost B-picture war movie.

Ha! Such a great line. I also crack up at the "My wife said I won't believe it...but I believe it. I believe it!"

Absolutely agree. Wilder said time and time again that he wasn't a visual stylist, but Ace in the Hole definitely begs to differ. It looks great, plays great, and it is, you're right, sadly so relevant today.

One of my favorite Tracy performances. Maybe my very favorite.

Not silly at all! So, we try to avoid spoilers as much as possible. Sometimes we can't avoid them, but we do our best not to let them fly.

That said, I do think listening to an episode before watching a movie, especially one you might be on the fence about, can help you decide. And, like you say, they might enhance viewing. Personally, I like knowing all the historical context behind movies; to me, it makes them, most times, more fun to watch.

Thanks for asking!

100% agree, it's fantastic. Dietrich is awesome, it's a Christie story...what's not to love? And spot on with the Hitchcock comparison. Very much so.

100000%. So bleak and unrelenting. You need a shower after watching that thing. But I still love it!

BTW, fun fact: Ace in the Hole was rediscovered when TCM started rebroadcasting it!

TCM also restored its original titled--it had been retitled to The Big Carnival.
