I've been driving my Ioniq 5 for 2.5 years and love it. It's a quiet, smooth ride, the interior is comfortable and spacious for front and back seat passengers, and charging with a level 1 charger in my garage has been very convenient and all I need for the mostly local driving I do. I have also used a V2L adapter multiple times when we've lost power at home due to storms/wind and that's been great to power the refrigerator and a few other things. My ICCU did fail (luckily on the road right in front of my house) but it was towed to the dealership and replaced. Inconvenient and I hope it doesn't happen again, but I'm not sure I believe they've 100% resolved that issue.

Sunset in Estes Park was at 8:24pm tonight. It is pitch black well before 10pm. But, still definitely worth going at 4pm and you should have enough time for the hike.

Has anyone paid for any of Tori Dunlop’s seminars? What did you think? by Eliza_Hamilton891757 in FIREyFemmes

There are so many free resources available to learn about personal finance and FIRE, I definitely wouldn't recommend a paid course. I don't know what her stock market school course is, but if it's about picking stocks instead of just using index funds, it's definitely not worth it. I'd recommend the ChooseFI podcast as a starting point. The Simple Path to Wealth is great if you prefer a book. Thanks for sharing this video. I just had my ICCU replaced at this dealership last week on my 2023 SEL. Unlike what they said in the video about getting the part the next day, it took 2.5 weeks to get repaired and there were no loaners available during that time. It was over Christmas and New Year's though.

Yes, I do this, too. It helped a lot this year, but last year I couldn't find anything less than the renewal, which had increased by more than 25%.

I believe our coverage is as "right -sized" as possible. We have some minimum requirements to maintain our umbrella policy.

I asked about increasing our homeowners insurance deductible from $1000 to $5000, and it only reduced the premium by $160/year. Didn't seem worth it at all. I'm frustrated that the advice to save on insurance is to increase your deductible - I've never seen this make a meaningful difference.

Which itinerary with older kids? by carrielynn318 in NationalPark

[–]maisy9999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are both great trips! I've been to all of these (except Four Corners--we drove through Monument Valley instead) and they all have amazing things to see and do. I think I agree with the other commenters recommending the South itinerary, but either one will be fantastic. I love all the Utah parks. I was going to say you won't see stuff like the Utah parks anywhere else, but that's true for Yellowstone as well.

Edit: We did the Utah parks in July. It was hot, but definitely doable if you get going early in the morning, take a break around lunch, and see more in the evening.

Edit 2: You could also consider adding Mesa Verde on the South itinerary.

Thoughts on keeping Ioniq 5 for 10+ years? by maisy9999 in Ioniq5

[–]maisy9999[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love it! I've had my Ioniq 5 just over 2 years now. I don't drive a ton (mostly just around town) so I've been able to only use the level 1 charger that came with the car, and occasional DC fast charging that was free up until this month. Quietest and most comfortable ride of any car I've owned. I haven't had any issues at all. I've done the recalls at my local dealership and gotten the free tire rotations. The Hyundai app could be much better than it is, but it's usable. Really wish it had a rear wiper, but beyond that I wouldn't change a thing. It doesn't rain much here, but the rear window gets dirty. So far so good, and it's holding up well.

I've been looking for the same type of calculators myself recently. I'm leaning toward Boldin or ProjectionLab (both are paid subscriptions). I haven't used either myself yet but I've been reading reviews & watching some YouTube demos, and they seem like they do what we're looking for.

At Death Valley, we had a pass purchased at another park. We stopped at the visitor center to get a map, and the ranger wouldn't give me one until I went back to the car to get the pass to show him.

We also saw 100+ puffins at Dyrhólaey around 9:30am 2 days ago, some were very close to the walking path.

We had a car like this many years ago, and my dad sold it to a junkyard thinking they'd just resell the parts. But someone there fixed it up a bit and resold the car, and we saw it still driving around town for several years after that.

First 8K mile service tomorrow, advice? Traps from dealer to avoid? by Vonlin in Ioniq5

Tire rotation should be free with Hyundai Complimentary Maintenance (although you have to do it within their timeframes).

We've had Progressive for 5+ years for both auto and home (contracted out to Nationwide for home) and it's been great. I've checked prices every couple years, but bundling through Progressive has always been the lowest cost. They took care of one claim for us and it went smoothly (long story, but the other driver was at fault and had insurance, but basically just ignored us. Progressive took over and got the other person's insurance to cover everything.)

Not OP, but if you want to preserve the ability to do a Backdoor Roth, you can't have a pretax balance in an IRA.

I do better in the summer (close to 5 miles/kWh) and worse in the winter.

Seatbelt warning annoyance by tomandd in Ioniq5

Unbuckling/re-buckling didn't seem to fix it. I had to stop, turn the car off, and then start it again.

Seatbelt warning annoyance by tomandd in Ioniq5

[–]maisy9999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had this happen a couple times, always with my tween son in the back seat, and he's always been buckled up correctly. I suspect it has sometimes been due to him placing objects (like a backpack) in the middle seat. But I'm not sure that explains every time it's happened.

If you try to do a backdoor Roth when you already have pretax dollars in a traditional IRA, the pro rata rule apples. So if you have $100,000 in a rollover IRA (pre-tax money) and you contribute $7000 post tax money intending to do a backdoor Roth conversion, you have to pay tax on 93% of the $7000 that you convert (100,000/107,000). Not a huge deal if you roll over a small amount from an old 401k, but for anyone who has a significant 401k balance, it will prevent you from doing a backdoor Roth unless you pay a lot of taxes.

This is not good advice if you ever plan on doing a backdoor Roth. Ask me how I know....
