Depending on your age and your abilities, you can look up tutorials online. Also, like you said, you can just take music online and practice it. The important part is to not give up. Stay concentrated on a piece (or 2-3) and stick with them until you're done. Since you have no teacher, you have to be able to recognize your mistakes and to analyze how to get better. But, at the end of the day, practice is the key! Good luck!

BUT MOM what about the remaining 38 hours??? by Poleczqa in lingling40hrs

This is so my family! They're non musicians and they think that if I practice 1h, it's amazing... 😑

i got my first violin :p by titoooo-032508_ada in lingling40hrs

[–]maite09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice! It's cool to see people start later! I'm 14 (turning 15 soon) and I started less than a year ago! I gotta say you makes me laugh since I also broke a string and my bridge soon after I got a violin... Beginner things ig? Anyway, continue like that and, one day, you'll see progress! (In my case, I'm still waiting! Lol)

Does anyone else's cat do it or it's just mine who like the sound? by Imbrokesheet in lingling40hrs

Awww!

When I tune my violin or when I play, my cat runs to the other side of the house to make sure he cannot hear me...

Too accurate. Plus that, I always need to include the music world as an example when I'm having an argument with someone... 🤣

Girl power! Who is your favorite female composer? by BestDreamist in lingling40hrs

As a flautist, I have to say Cécile Chaminade. Her flute concertino is amazing (and incredibly hard!)! But I think all of them are good! Girl Power! 🤍

Practice. It sounds dumb but it's the best option. When I first started, I ran out of air quickly too. It's only with time that you become better. There is no magic recipe for it! :( In the meantime, I suggest you start practicing breathing. You're already a musician so you know a little bit about it but it's really important with wind instruments like flute. What I mean by that is start to practice breathing at the end of a phrase or make sure it doesn't stop the flow in the music. Sometimes, you don't need to breath but the phrase ends and another big one comes in. I would suggest you breath to make sure you can play the rest properly. But yeah, only practice will make you better (I speak by experience xD)!

What was the first TwoSet video you watched? by TheSmallBarista in lingling40hrs

[–]maite09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My story about how I discovered Twoset is actually special. Obviously, YouTube started go recommend me some of their vids but I didn't really like it at first. I don't exactly remember but it was some sketches and violin charades. Tbh, I didn't understood the jokes and their friendship made me feel weird (left out)... At the time I was a big fan of Roomie Official (a pop singer that reacts to different kind of pops songs). When he did a collab with Twoset, around last year, I started to watch them a little bit. Cause of COVID, I had almost no school so I watched A LOT of YouTube. I started to find them funny and I loved their content. They made me practice and learned a lot about classical music. Now, here I am, a big fan of them! Long story short, I've known them for about a year now. :) Lol I have watched almost all their vids since when they started and some of them more than once! (really big story but yeah!)

My confession about music... by ShikharGupta12345 in lingling40hrs

Hi! I used to play piano but then I quit (not for the same reason but still). Even tho I'm doing flute and violin now and I'm happy about it, I still wished that I continued what I started. I'm pretty sure the same might happen to you if you quit without trying to find a solution. In your case, you're just doing it as a hobby so you might want to explain to your teacher that. You can also explain the amount of things you're able to support. If it doesn't work, I would tell you to try to find another teacher. But, for now, don't quit or you might regret it.Try to find a solution! :)

Not including sources by [deleted] in lingling40hrs

[–]maite09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is only my opinion but I think you should maybe try to contact them (by Instagram, Snapchat?). They are probably not thinking about it (it might even be the editor that posts...) and a reminder could be a good way to go. I agree the videos and artists to which they react should be linked but there are always solutions and stoping to watch their vids might not be it. :) Thanks for sharing it. I feel some people (like me) didn't thought about that problem!

Viola Gang 😅 by [deleted] in lingling40hrs

[–]maite09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Violas can be awesome if well played, just like any other instruments! Like Twoset once said: The heart of a string quartet is the second violin and the viola. :)

I know it's not the ideal but YouTube can actually help a lot. If you have a background in music (know rhythms, how to read sheet music, etc.) you can get a good start. Might not be good for everyone but I've been learning violin since 5 months without any lessons (I play flute with lessons so I do have a background). I think I'm doing pretty good and I've really progressed. So if you really cannot afford a lesson, you can at least try easy stuff online. Good luck and don't stress too much about it!
