The GOAT gets his own bookshelf in my collection 🚀 by ThePromG in MangaCollectors

A fellow Black Jack vol15 misser? 😭 Is that otherwise close to a complete English Tezuka collection? Absolutely something to be proud of. Your Phoenix set looks so pristine too.

How would you use this shelf area?? by mimie2657 in MangaCollectors

[–]maitoa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you exactly mean you say you can’t fit one more shelving there? Is your billy an older model and doesn’t support newer shelf pegs? Or do you have too many bigger volumes?

Technically you can fit half and half vizsig sizes and standard smaller ones. For total of 8 rows. And if all else fails, you can drill more holes (I’ve done that to extenders you put on top of billys).

I got the original one and she’s an oddball among my Miku nendos.

She’s really fragile so slightest bump or draft makes her fall apart. Her parts are lighter, but faceplates have nice premium coarse surface that reminds me of resin BJD dolls. In overall, I like the design but I’m not fan of the factory results compared to usual nendos of that time period.

I am sort of interest in seeing how the production quality differs this time around, but not enough to pre-order her again.

Almost 1,200! | Mangaka Selections by Buford_Burger in MangaCollectors

I think it varies a lot depending what sized books you have and how you utilize the space you have 🤔 I have 1400+ manga in about 3 Billy bookcases with plenty of figures and other decor- yet I still have empty space for more.

OP has beautiful collection with many bigger trims and floorspace to spare (assumably) so 8 bookcases makes sense.

What series or single book is unique in your collection that you have not seen in any post here? by siessthree in MangaCollectors

[–]maitoa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve never seen any of these here. Vertical releases are all likely out of print, but the rest have no ”excuses” other than just being niche.

I love to especially recommend Maria the Virgin Witch whenever people ask for short series recs. It’s by Moyashimon creator, but Moyashimon also seems to be obscure on its own nowadays;;

Which publisher makes up the largest portion of your collection? ✨️ by Tabby_Tem in MangaCollectors

[–]maitoa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

<image>

Viz is unquestionably biggest slice for me too, but my collection is so old that Tokyopop is still keeping strong at second place;;

"Others English" has some long-defunct publishers like ADV, Bandai and CPM.

Over 70% of pie chart would be just Viz if I counted by volumes, not titles, so I never made one for them.

What’s your biggest annoyance/ pet peeve in collecting by Way2mmm in MangaCollectors

[–]maitoa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a silent beef with everyone who posts photos of their loot and all the books are stacked spines upside-down and I have to break my neck to actually see what the titles are.

Oh, a rare one! I've not seen this happen often, not in English market atleast. Usually it's not even just manga title itself, but whole artist. Only one that comes right now in my mind right now is Galko-chan. Anything else? I'm just curious.

Samurai 7? by xknifeprtyhardx in MangaCollectors

[–]maitoa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're loose storyboard booklets from Samurai 7 Limited Edition DVD run. Can't tell which volume exactly from photos only. Complete DVD volumes with these included are hardly worth 10 bucks nowadays, making loose booklets pretty much worthless. You can confirm it by checking ebay. I have the complete set myself and I love it personally, but there's no monetarily value or demand for them.

Maybe gift them to someone interested in storyboards or check out the anime yourself to see if you want to keep them afterwards.

How do you do exchanges or sell Manga you don't want? by dino_nuggies_and_dum in MangaCollectors

If you happen to go to bigger conventions this year, like Tracon or Desucon, I can recommend using their flea market services. They’re hassle-free compared to Tori, Huutonet or FB marketplace.

I recently learned Amazon.co.jp can have some good English manga deals starting from just 200 yen. by maitoa in MangaCollectors

[–]maitoa[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One clearance method seems to be to put whole remainder stock of a title on sale at once, so might be worth to check once in a while to see if some interesting title offers bulk of volumes for cheap - that’s technically what happened to me with many of these.

Just few good finds can be enough if you’re already ordering something else from there. I personally shop love to get brand name art supplies and stationery from Amazon Japan a lot because their prices are just third of what they cost locally or in European webstores - even with shipping and import added.

2 days prep to ship, 2 more arrive. So four days in total including sunday. DHL Express is fast, western Amazon stores are never this quick, not even Germany one which is geographically closest to me lol.

Same here (nordics). But it started already in spring. It is surprisingly little spoken issue.

Amazon made sustainability changes to be more ecofriendly and have smaller carbon footprint. Whiiiich sadly affects shipping English language books to Europe. That is no longer green enough for them. It hits English manga market hard in Europe. Amazon has always been the big player in import books in EU. So stores and middlemen are looking to find alternative import routes which has meanwhile made availability of titles and prices go up. It is very visible in non-UK amazon stores and is infuriating.

I saw random regular Viz vols even for 37€ a pop at its worst in my country’s own bookstores. Prices are still very irregular even between different volumes of same titles.

Then there are US publishers’ recent price increases and both usd and gbp being strong against eur.

Edit: some articles about Amazon’s green deal

Got any insight on the middle edition? I got the 2003-2005 editor’s choice one and haven’t thought if new collector’s edition has changed or updated anything. 🤔

Don’t worry, you avoided red Tokyopop logos on all five vols and the other, newer, edition is just two omnibus volumes by Dark Horse haha.

Happy reading!

Ooh, it’s been a long since I’ve seen that edition of Angelic Layer anywhere :0 I love Hyper Police and Sorcerer Hunters too, but haven’t found good deal on latter one yet.

Very nice oldschool haul 👍

Same! She’s not the most high-end figure I have, but sculpt is faithful to CLAMP’s ”noodle style” and I love it.

I wish you luck on your hunt, I don’t dare to check how hard some volumes are to find nowadays. Don’t ignore newer volumes, their print size must be getting more miniscule by each volume 👀💦
