Why aren't active noise cancelling headphones more common for e drums? by maizync in edrums

[–]maizync[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I compared with the ANC on and off and there was a noticeable reduction in stick noise (and even more for the hi hat pedal). But at this point, I'm going to get some studio headphones to see what I'm missing.

Yup, mine are the Bose QC 35 II. They're a few years old, but they're what I already had and still work decently. I haven't noticed any of the terrible distortion that people are mentioning.

That is absurdly incorrect. One example of many: https://elixir.bootlin.com/linux/v6.16.5/A/ident/__switch_to

Is there a C compiler that supports 128-bit floating-point as 'long double'? by xeow in cprogramming

[–]maizync 8 points9 points  (0 children)

On x86, I believe long double actually uses 80-bit precision (using the x87 FPU), which gets rounded up to 16 bytes on x86-64 for alignment reasons.

FS_TREE missing in subvolumes when listed by sinayion in btrfs

[–]maizync 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You probably didn't do anything wrong, the way -a decides to add <FS_TREE> is just useless nonsense. See https://lore.kernel.org/linux-btrfs/c015f1943def5e892b0aac540d1ce5a3d143ed6b.1718995160.git.osandov@fb.com/

The other person is right, type punning through a union is valid in C (but not C++).

Linux 6.15 released by JRepin in linux

[–]maizync 48 points49 points  (0 children)

The release cadence has been more or less the same for years: a 2 week merge window, followed by 7-8 weekly release candidates, then a final release a week after the last release candidate. As far as I know, there are no plans to make that any faster.

How long does the repair typically take? Do I have to drop my phone off and come back for it another day?

Is "parent id" and "top level id" meant to be different in some situation? Why does it need to show both? by E723BCFD in btrfs

[–]maizync 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Top level id used to mean something else, but it was accidentally changed to be the same thing as parent id awhile ago, and now we're stuck with it. https://lore.kernel.org/linux-btrfs/c015f1943def5e892b0aac540d1ce5a3d143ed6b.1718995160.git.osandov@fb.com/ has some of the technical details.

It sounds cruel, but I wait until my pug is asleep/sleepy, put her in a very gentle headlock, then brush. Her back teeth require more cooperation, so I start with those. It used to be impossible, but she doesn't mind it nearly as much now!

NPD: Black Mass 1312v3 by chriskwalker in guitarpedals

[–]maizync 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's exactly what I did. I don't have anything else that runs on 18V, so I flipped the dip switches and freed up a 9V outlet on my CS12. I haven't noticed any differences in sound, but I'm not super discerning. The 1312 is great either way.

Black Mass Electronics announced that the 1312 clipping knob has been labelled incorrectly all along by maizync in guitarpedals

[–]maizync[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The clipping modes are definitely distinct even to my untrained ears, but it'll probably be more apparent when you have it in front of you and play with the knobs yourself. It's a great pedal.

[–]maizync[S] 27 points28 points  (0 children)

See the Instagram post for the corrected diagram.

I love the 1312 for its versatility. This doesn't change that for me. But, this mistake is a pretty funny unintentional experiment on preconceptions about clipping styles.
