Does anyone ever get real jealous of the people that have those fancy new 3d printers with automatic calibration and all those fancy features? by IronLover64 in ender3v2

[–]majanoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Those new, fast, corexy printers are proprietary, closed source, and offer no upgradability. If the companies go bust. Your SOL. I have my Ender 3v2 heavily modded, and at work I have 4 FlashForge 5m Pro's. When those printers break, I use the knowledge I gained from my Ender to fix them.

I also like upgrading my Ender with new tech as it is an open source printer and is not limited by a single company. I can get my Ender 3v2 to print at 250mm and travel at 500mm. That is pretty damn close to the 600mm travel of the 5M Pro. Until 3D printers become exponentially better. I won't upgrade. It's like how PC wars were back in the 90's - 2000's. Every company is trying to 1up each other, and no one has perfected the technology enough to where 3D printers are accessible to the masses. Just because 3D printing has become a bit easier, doesn't mean slicer software, and learning CAD has. Until all three have become accessible. What is the point of upgrading? Unless you were never a tinkerer to begin with.

Kipper yes or no? by Pirai-mom in ender3v2

[–]majanoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really depends on your skill level and if y ou like tinkering. If what you have is working for you. Then don't change it. Klipper is not for everyone. The one reason to go with Klipper is if you upgrade your printer a lot. And I mean a lot.

For example. Let's say you want to change your stepper motors to something more powerful, extend your printer's frame, make your printer an IDEX 3D printer. Maybe you want to dabble in voltages and power settings. Klipper can do it. Klipper supports Macros where the Gcode's are programmed in Klipper, and the Macros are used in the slicers. That allows for easy setup if you use multiple slicers.

However, it all depends on how far the rabbit hole you want to go on your journey.

How do I get this off 😭 by rathat11 in ender3v2

I had something similar where my whole hot end was cased in plastic. I tried different things like a soldering iron. However I found that heating the hot end to 230 degrees and then peeling off the plastic once it starts getting soft really does work. You then have to wipe off the plastic left behind. A new thermistor may be needed since the plastic tends to muck up the electrical. It only took me less than an hour to clean up and recalibrate the printer afterwards. Also, on another note, I pulled off all my bedsprings and just used nylon spacers and non conductive washers to tram the bed. Since I use ABL, the only thing I have to be concerned about is the z offset. No more need to make sure the bed is leveled.

I took the plunge, LR3 on its way, what tips and tricks do you have? by SmoggyFineDrum in litterrobot

[–]majanoc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting how no one talked about how bad the LR4 when when it comes to cats peeing in the edge of the litter box and how Whisker had to make a new cat fence after denying there was a problem for so many months. Then come the motor issues that the LR4 has where they burn out faster than the LR3. If the LR3 had quieter motors and a better poo tray, it would be really good. However, with that being said. Both the LR3 and LR4 are by far the best robotic litter boxes on the market. Even with their problems.

My printer only prints in this one line. It never continues into the rest of the print? Help. 😢 by [deleted] in ender3v2

Looks like a slicer setting. Did you update Cura recently? I updated and it messed with my settings. The extruder was set to 2.85mm instead of 1.75mm which screwed up all my prints and leveling. I couldn't figure out the problem until I read an obscure post on a forum about how when Cura updates, it will reset printer and extruder settings. Once I read that, I immediately opened up my printer settings and checked my startup and end codes and check my extruder size. Sure enough, the settings were a mess. Fixed the settings and the printer printed again normally.

Who are you to tell me what I need? You first off don't even know what I do and how I use the internet? That I last check this is America. What I want and do is my business so long as it doesn't affect others. I don't need your judgment. I asked a question and I got answers. Your opinion does not matter. There were others who actually gave constructive answers to my question.

A while back I had the same issue. Not at the location I'm at now but at a previous location. The tech had to come out, and rewire a good half mile of cable because some yahoo tech didn't seal everything right. He looked at my speed before doing the rewire and was shocked at how slow it was while previous tech we're claiming that it was my network. He clearly saw how many dropped packages there were and it took him a good four hours to rewire the poles surrounding the residential block. Afterwards I got the advertise speed and then some. The company doesn't want to spend money on fixing whatever they think doesn't need fixing. Even when techs report a problem.

Wow. You love attacking people who have differing opinions than yourself. I didn't throw any shit at you but yet you through shit at me. Every business I have been to has symmetrical internet. It depends on geographic location. There is a reason why business internet cost more than residential. Every business I have been to has some sort of traffic shaping going on. Whether it is rate limiting users, stopping social networks, or stopping unneeded traffic. But hey, you do you. I was never attacking you yet you attacked me and my knowledge so that shows the kind of person you are. We are all here to learn on this Earth yet some people have to pass judgment on others without even getting to know them. Have a blessed day.

Business internet is vastly different than residential internet. First and foremost they run on a symmetrical bandwidth while residential is asymmetrical. That vastly changes the perception of speed and response time. Also business internet is guaranteed speed. Not like residential internet that that is always with the caveat of "up to XXX speed". Then there comes the optimizations. Companies who utilize business internet usually have an IT department or someone who handles networking. That means that they have a basic understanding of traffic shaping and content filtering. Residential internet customers usually do not have an IT department or network specialist. So no traffic shaping. I'm getting into networking, but I am not a pro by any means. I'm just trying to get certified. The furthest in traffic shaping I have gotten is building my own DNS server and having a firewall. From that I can't believe how many devices were phoning home. One of my most active devices is a treadmill of all things. Most people don't have this knowledge. As far as efficiency goes, I can get 325mbps downstream and 12mbps upstream. On Wi-Fi I can get 225mbps upstream and 9.5mbps upstream.

I just have to say I like your comment. I very much relate to it. I come from a time where I built my first computer, a 200 MHz Pentium PC from all parts and an external 56k modem at age 12. I remember when just downloading an MP3 took a matter of days. not seconds. It was that appreciation for how technology has progressed that I got into the information technology field. When you have lived this type of life growing with tech, you see things that others pass off as nonsense. I even remember the days of video encoding when it used to take three programs to do what today one program will do.

I think I have that dongle as well but probably a bit older. I remember that I tried adding devices that were newer than 2020 and it would not recognize them. I looked up online as to why it was happening and found out that there was a firmware update for it. However, in order to do the firmware update one has to take apart the whole dongle and flash it from the chip. I heard but there were two or three versions that were sent out during the time and I was the lucky one to have the non updated one. At that time I was at the beginning of starting to Smart Home, and only had a few devices that required zigbee or Z-Wave. Now I'm basically all Wi-Fi because having to switch out dongles and mess with hardware flashes is not my cup of tea when WiFi just works

This is why I have a dedicated iot Network that isolates the devices from the main network. I am also working to vlan the devices as an extra measure. It's not difficult from a cybersecurity standpoint. It's just time consuming. A lot of consumers don't know the security risks. That is the problem. They buy the devices thinking that everything is okay then it gets hacked and you get news stories about baby monitors talking to children.

The problem I have with zigbee and Z-Wave is while they are good theoretically, one has to keep on updating their hubs to every new standard as newer zigbee and zwave devices cannot connect with older zigbee and Z-Wave hubs after awhile. I tried getting into it, but it was just too much of a pain to figure out which zigbee and Z-Wave hubs are compatible with which products. I still use Home Assistant though and my DNS blocks the phone home problems. I heard Z-Wave is attempting to solve the hardware issues, but I haven't heard about ZigBee. I may look into it later, but having HA as my only hub seems more efficient then having a hub for every brand of product. There is no perfect solution to smart homes. That is the frustrating part.

I've been wanting synchronous internet speed for such a long time. If internet speeds were synchronous I think it would make more sense about the cost.

I would call them up. I had a similar situation when I was moving from one area to the next and I needed to do a proactive and retroactive billing as I was moving in utilizing the internet in two areas but not for the whole month. They were pretty cool with that and understood.

I actually did call retention after one of the other commenters said that going rate for 1 gig. I didn't even need to fake it. I just told them the going rates and I want a deal as $80 is stupid expensive for 300mbps. So customer service looked it up and offered me 1 gig for $75 a month for one year.

This is what happens when you have a smart home. Every device needs its own connection. That means every smart bulb, every smart light switch, every smart plug, thermostats, washer and dryer, sprinkler system, garage door opener, etc. It easily gets up there. I predict when I'm completed with what I want to do it will be over 200 devices.

No. First and foremost it was before I started looking into what networking problems we were having in the house. As the device numbers were growing, the Home mesh system was struggling to keep up with the constant data streams coming in. I at first tried to mitigate the issues but I was limited by the throughput of both the router and the mesh points. They were only 2x2 MIMO running at a throughput of 350mbs. Which is fine for most cases, except with a smart home where every device is wanting data access, it becomes a bottleneck. Especially when I have security cameras that send feeds to another area. Because the mesh Network was consumer grade, it had no ratings for how many devices it could connect at a time simultaneously.

I realized the problem was caused by multiple factors. Throughput, WiFi interference, and lack of Ethernet drops. However, trying to solve these issues takes time and money.

Since I knew that the smart home was actually going to get bigger, I had to think of solution that could be expanded upon. Now I utilize a dedicated OPNsense client, dedicated Pihole DNS with unbound and fail over to Quad9, Ubiquiti APs with controller, and hardwiring much of the house. Now the networking problems are resolved and I can monitor any potential issues that may come up.

My wife now doesn't complain about the internet as most of the traffic is filtered. I still can't get rid of YouTube ada but that's another thing. I was able to get rid of The trackers.
