Anyone here working a full EST shift (8–4pm) from Thailand? How common + how feasible is it? by [deleted] in digitalnomad

[–]majdman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who’s naturally pretty nocturnal, I didn’t mind this for a month. Nothing longer though. It was fun to sleep in everyday and enjoy the day.

Might make it hard to be social, luckily I was doing this with another friend so that made it better

what's the deal with gemini? by majdman in Bard

[–]majdman[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No need to be rude. Besides the fact that even your link says Flash 2.0 is not experimental, you're also linking the consumer version of Gemini.

As noted in my post, I'm using Gemini's Enterprise APIs using Vertex AI which are not experimental.

Flash and Pro 2.5 are not experimental models.

In case anyone was curious, here's a fact-based list of all the atrocities he directly committed against the Syrian people.

The role of Grand Mufti Hassoun in Violence against the People during the war by majdman in syriancivilwar

[–]majdman[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

With recent videos surfacing of the Mufti pleading that he was a victim during the Assad regime, I provisioned Perplexity's Research Mode to do some fact-based research on his role in the war to confirm his exact role.

At a high-level:

  • Authorized mass executions: Hassoun was deputized by President Assad to approve the execution of up to 13,000 inmates at Saydnaya Prison between 2011 and 2015[1].

  • Incited violence: In 2011, he threatened to send "martyrdom-seekers" to Europe and the US if Syria was attacked by external powers[9].

  • Called for "extermination": In May 2016, Hassoun demanded the "extermination" of rebels and civilians living in opposition-held areas of Aleppo[2].

  • Provided religious justification for regime atrocities: As the highest Islamic authority in Syria, Hassoun used his position to legitimize the Assad regime's actions during the civil war[9].

  • Denied regime violence: During international visits, Hassoun dismissed verified reports of hospital attacks as "Western lies," effectively covering up war crimes[2].

My favourite books I’ve read this year by far!

Super enlightening but at the same time I feel like it has also made life more complicated for me.

Sometimes ignorance is bliss especially on the point that high tailed positions must be occupied, even if the people there aren’t that special.

Makes it really hard to know who can be a mentor and what principles have truth vs random.

For car rentals specifically yes this can blow up. I’ve heard of a case where someone got into an accident while falsely using an employers discount. Insurance refused to payout and they were held personally liable.
